yes, you need an oil sandwitch plate between the filter and block to mount the temp probe/pressure sensor.

Maybe a trip to one of the forum recommended workshops is in order, get them to fit the gauge for you.

I only say this due to the fact you're considering drilling holes in your engine! :confused:
