Thanks Brett.

You will have a lot of hp and torque midrange between 3500-5700 rpm, which can be put to some good use.
Thanks to Mao and Warwick for their great service and support again. The car has a totally different attitude now. Looking forward to having a play.

I am pleased with the numbers we were able to achieve with some simple modifications without having to run an aggressive tune or high levels of boost.

Thanks again. Brett
Once again, thank you P.WRx for your continuous support. We have been flat out with tunes.

Below is a Recent flash tune on MY09 WRX. Yielded almost 296.6hp and over 419Nm of torque @1.3bar. Turbine and engine were stock. Powertrain loss was also reduced using an Exedy stage II clutch kit.

296hp with only a CAI?

mao 13-01-2013 01:49 PM

With 3" TBE as well. Vehicle came in 2weeks ago and had a slipping clutch. New Exedy Stage II was installed followed by a retune 2 days later.

Yah, tell me about it! Had a few guys from P.WRX around including DCYoung who owns the vehicle, as we were also preparing Joey's (used to own the red Evo) new time attack Civic for a Hondata tune and everyone went quiet for a while when the numbers popped on the screen.

Credit has to go to Warick who did an amazing job.

Weekdays are ok if you give me some notice.
Cheers.

Today's flash tune on a MY05 Forester SG. Vehicle came in with VF34 turbine, Walbro 255L/hr fuel pump, TBE, Perrin Cold Air Intake, EBay spec top mount and eBay spec electronic boost controller.

We proceeded with a power run and then removed the ebay spec boost controller and linked the boost control straight to the Mac valve.

Flash tuned yielded an amazing 308hp and 449.9Nm. Boost was set to 1.3bar at 4200rpm and tapered down to 1.1bar at 6400rpm! Banzai! Customer was most certainly happy with the after drive.

Point was acknowledged during the tune.

Max torque was achieved at less than 1.3bar at 4250RPM (yellow line) and quickly pulling boost and timing off from there to the end, ensures better engine life.

Take the attention off max boost of 1.38bar for a while and look at the overall yellow boost curve and not the blue. Edit: Boost was maxed at less than 1.3bar-- refer yellow line.

Max boost was 1.28bar at 4250rpm and boost was dumped to 1.1bar by 6400rpm. Engine was running sweet.

AFRs were kept less than 11.2. Warick has found the sweet spot for the EJs over the last few tunes and will like to keep it at that, without causing damage to the engines.

Thank you P.WRX for your continual support.

Evolution R will now offer you a tune with 2 boost settings. The flash tune for the GD, GG, GH, GR, GV WRX/STi will be set for advanced boost to produce more power and response, and lower boost for daily driving, which will be also tuned for good response.

This package price is $1100 for P.WRX members. It includes the following:

1) Blitz SBC ID Spec R Dual Solenoid electronic boost controller installed and tuned for 2 boost settings. RRP $799.
2) Full ecu flash tune to suit 2 boost settings- high boost and low boost.

Advantages of this setup:
1) Lower boost for daily driving, which the ecu is tuned to suit.
2) higher boost for good power when u need it for track or performance use. The flash tune will also be done to suit this.
3) the Blitz SBC ID Spec R is a top of the range electronic boost controller and has dual boost solenoids for extremely accurate boost control. This dual solenoids setup is more advanced than the traditional Mac valve setup.
4) Digital boost meter included in the Blitz unit.

Tony 09-03-2013 05:45 PM

Mao in regards with above tune. Wouldnt it be more efficient to lower the max boost, and reduce the amount of boost taper so he could see better boost preformance overall at high rpm? Or is the boost taper out of your control?

mao 09-03-2013 06:17 PM

Hi Tony, how are you?

Not sure I quite understand your point, but will input accordingly.

In this case, the tiny factory air pump system is already maxed up and is running out of puff towards the top end, so there is no need to reduce boost in this case.

Tapering off towards the higher rpm will reduce torque but on the safe side (bear in mind this is a brand spanking new STi), produce less strain on engine and driveline.

In regards to holding boost well, I would choose to upgrade the turbine like the TD06SL2 on XT43's WRX and hold it strong at 1.4 bar. But this will be my standpoint if it were my own vehicle. But from a business point of view, especially when it is a brand spanking new STi with an awesome owner who uses it as a daily, we choose to go on the safe side.

Edit: In regards to part of your question, reducing the boost to get a flatter boost curve will not see better performance. With correct AFRs, less boost less power and torque.

Thank you P.WRX for your support.

We have received many enquiries about LINK ecu tuning.

Evolution R is equipped to tune the Possum Link G1, G2/G3 and G4. These units are well developed esp the G4. Even the G1 is a great unit with good idle control and provides a MAFless tune.

CAUTION: We have met with a lot of short circuited Links at the shop recently. Please do not use the SSMIII or similar equipment for DTCs, use the Link software. The LINK board will short circuit if the OBD port is used.

Yesterday's tune on a MY04 STi. Owner had recently bought the vehicle and booked it in to have the driveability problems fixed. On closer inspection, previous owner had removed the the Vi-pec ecu that was in it and put back the stock ecu. The front AFR and rear O2 sensors were also not present. (Vi-pec does not require the use of these sensors). Both AFR and O2 CELs were deliberately removed via a reflash to prevent the engine light from turning on.

In real terms, closed loop was not functioning at all.

Anyhow, both sensors were replaced and we proceeded with a tune.
