I think you'll find myself and Kato were talking about the comparison run dated Nov 2011 when the temp was 100F.

I think it might be in Imperial because you are measuring in Horsepower (which is an Imperial unit) ?

mao 05-09-2012 09:42 PM

Yup, you are right.

Dynapack's system is such that we can only pre-select outputs and units we choose prior to delivery, and this is preconfigured from factory.

You will find that on the new Dynapack like ours, we are limited from factory with no correction factor inputs like the older units. This was implemented by Dynapack to try to uniform the readings for the new Dynapacks.

Also I will be doing software maintenance and checks with Dynapack tmr, any questions and suggestions will be appreciated.

Recent Tunes and Power runs this week im preparation for the October Drift events held in WA over the next few weeks.

Below is a ECR33 running on E85 and Power FC. Vehicle had multiple setup problems, including a leaky Turbosmart Blow-0ff valve. 'Rough tune' managed 322hp with 418NM of Torque @0.9bar with plenty left in the RB25DET's pockets, once the setup issues are fixed by the other workshop involved and back for the fine tune. Boost Cut was set @0.95 bar on the Power FC until plumbing rectifications have been done -- as can be seen from the sharp cut in the Torque and Power graphs.

Tial wastegate on a Mercedes Truck Turbine on the RB25DET-- that's how they drift it!

Toyota Z20 Soarer with SARD auto-drift box. This vehicle has had a 1JZ-GTE conversion and achieved 333hp with 522Nm of Torque on an Trust E-manage and Greddy Boost Control set to 1.2bar.

That skyline is crazy :D

No inner-guards, truck turbo, external gate, bright paint.

Good power for such low boost too!
What is the expected figure when its all together properly?

has that skyline ever been on today tonight ?

Hey Mao, very impressed with Warwick and your efforts with tuning my sg9 foz xt and installing the STDs. I am very happy with the results of the tune, and the car is worlds apart from what it was, given its an auto. I'm now thinking it may be worth turning up the boost to maybe 1.2bar!

Cheers adrian

mao 15-10-2012 06:57 PM

Glad that the Forester is running great. hahaha it is normal to want more and I myself would want more boost too.

The vehicle was running too rich and boost was set at 0.88bar when it came in.

Warick reset the AFRs and increased the boost to 0.95 bar and it made 30hp more.

Yup 1.2 bar should make a bigger statement.

Below was your before and after dyno results.

Apexi Power FC tune on GC8.

Vehicle came in with a misfire right after 4500rpm. History of this GC8 was that it belonged to a place called S2R. Have no idea where it was tuned before but detonation was picked up on the Dyno logs on the first power run.

The previous tune in the PFC was so bad that detonation melted the tip of the plug, causing the misfire.

Plug with melted off tip:

Look at the boost spike to over 1.7bar due to the detonation. This problem was fixed after we corrected the ign timing in the PFC, with new NGK Iriway 7 Spark Plugs and NGK Ignition Leads.

NGK Ignition Leads installed (blue in color):

Apexi Power FC tune with Process West intercooler and VF34 boosting @1.35bar。 Power was brought back up above 260hp and 330Nm. The injectors were maxed out at this point.

We have been doing quite a few flash tunes on the WRX's and Foresters with the Automatic transmission.

Below is a recent retune of sf5gyauto's SG Forester. You can see the previous tune here:

Anyhow, he wanted to see if we could improve the tune with more than 1 bar of boost.
Results are below. Boost was increased to 1.25bar and tappered down to 1.0bar from 5000rpm to 6200rpm:

Today's tune on MY06 STi.

This vehicle has had a prior tune done elsewhere and we were given the job to freshen it up.

This vehicle came in with a Spec C Twin scroll turbine setup, including Spec C headers and upipe. However, upon close examination at the last service, we found the headers to be leaking slightly, while the STi was very sluggish.

Once the leaks were repaired, Warick proceeded with the power run. Vehicle also had a slight misfire. AFRs were too lean as well. Once again, the AFM and spark plugs were the problem.

Note color of spark plug --- vehicle has been running too lean:

Below is a pic of the cracked insulator on the spark plug, caused by overtightening of the plug.

These were replaced by the JDM NGK Irimax Spark Plugs Evolution R stocks for the 2.5 boxers.

It has sure been tough these last few weeks trying to get tunes right. After a few rounds of discussions and debates with Warick, Warick concluded that we are raising the bar with regards to tuning and I agree with him totally.

Hence the results today below. We have achieved max torque of 491Nm with this very simple Spec C setup on a 06STi with just exhaust and filter upgrade. Boost was tapered down from 1.6bar to 1.1bar from 4000rpm as injectors were still stock. We will make over 500Nm of Torque and more consistent torque towards the top end, once the injectors are upgraded.

490Nm @4000rpm Spec C Twin Scroll setup!!!! Significant improvements in hp over his previous tune can also be seen below:

mao 12-11-2012 11:23 PM

VF36 and VF37 are the same on the compressor side. VF36 does spool quicker though as it is a ball bearing turbine with titanium shaft and wheel, while the VF37 is a journal bearing turbine.

Other than that, they are the same twin scroll turbine. Can't see that much diff between the 2 of them personally, except for the quicker spool. Power and Torque should be similar thoughn as compressor size is the same, other than the spool rate

Thank you Perth WRX for your continuous support. Evolution R has been busy with a lot of tuning and we will be posting up some runs up this weekend.

Below was Riceman's initial Power FC Tune done elsewere.

With the proper Power FC Excel software, Evolution R was able to tune it up to 264hp and 344.6Nm. This was with the VF34 on a standard GC8 WRX with air filter + TBE.

You are telling us that he had a power fc and a tune already, with his vf34 and he was only getting 177hp atw/hubs???

That is something I refuse to believe. There has to be a lot more to the story than just that....

Or was that with the TD04 and you fitted the VF34??

mao 03-12-2012 01:22 AM

Below is a recent retune on a GD WRX which came in with knocking issues. Before and after results can be seen on the power chart.

By adjusting the AFRs and timing correctly, we were able to smoothen out the torque, while gaining overall HP and Torque, with a little more boost. Note that more boost and timing around the dip at 4700rpm would have smoothen out the torque curve, but having none forged internals on a WRX, pushing the engine further was not an option.

Thanks again. Brett
