Subaru JDM Rear View Cam which replaces one of the License plate Lights
Curious to know whether or not there would be any legal issues with removing one of the license plate lights? |
the camera has a light built in with it Tony, so you don't lose the light
|
is that bluetooth as well mao?
|
Good value for money, off topic I know but I wish someone made a unit like this for the VE commodores.
|
the camera has a light built in with it Tony, so you don't lose the light
Only just noticed that, thanks Kym. |
Impresiv: As always good eyesight.
Tuna: Yes it comes with bluetooth. Guys I will be hooking up the unit to the 12V source when time allows to have a dry run. Also Digital TV is optional. I can get the factory to have the STI logo come on as the start-up logo if I can establish a group buy later. |
Yes it will work with the steering wheel control button.
Will it connect with steering wheel control buttons?
|
There is also another different design to this, but I have not brought it in as it has a smaller screen. Only difference is the usb is on the front.
This unit is made in Taiwan and sold through the local Subaru dealers as an option. The camera they had there was just a generic camera that didnt fit exactly. I managed to source the JDM camera specifically for the Impreza GR/GH and Forester at Subaru Fukuoka. I am dealing factory direct so the one year warranty from date of sale is effective. Soksta: Although the cam has a LED license plate light, I have the matching Polarg LED for the other factory License Plate light. |
Just curious, Can you hook the reverse camera up to the factory Subaru sat nav system that comes with the premium models?
|
Yes it will work with the steering wheel control button.
MY08-MY10 only had the audio controls, MY11+ now comes with the bluetooth controls on the steering wheel, can you confirm whether or not these work with this unit in particular?
Soksta: Although the cam has a LED license plate light, I have the matching Polarg LED for the other factory License Plate light.
Thanks Mao. |
Unfortunately, this unit will not do the Bluetooth control on the steering wheel.

Yes Ipod connectivity is there. GPS uses IGO map.
Does it have iPod cable connectivity and what GPS map does it use?
|
Hi Mao,
Any feedback on the unit? Positive or negative... |
Im guessing his feedback would be positive enough for him to sell with warranty...
|
Havnt had the chance to hook it up as yet. Will do it by the weekend guys. Cheers
|
Yes Ipod connectivity is there. GPS uses IGO map.
Sorry to correct you Mao but the software is IGO. The maps, dependent on the maps age/year of release, is either Sensis maps (in the past) or now Navtec maps. I have personally found Igo to be one of the better GPS software and the Navtec maps are much better and accurate than the previous Sensis maps. |
Thanks for the input. To be precise, it is called the IGO Navigational Software.
|
Depsite the ad, curious to know if this is Subaru or forester specific, will it work in other cars ?
Keen for something like this, but not keen on spending 1.5k |
Which vehicle do you have?
|
Hi Mao,
How did your test of this on the weekend go? I am keen to install in my 09 Rex. |
I'm keen on this unit and was wondering if it is at all possible to fit on into a MY01 GD WRX, it looks like its the normal Double din size.
I would be willing to pay the extra amount for fitting/GPS antenna etc.. |
Hi Alpha, there is a normal double din sized unit with the same features, but this unit is made to fit the GR/GH and is not the double din size.

Hi Guys,
Fitted the Head unit today, including the rear view camera. Results were awesome. It is fully functional as an OEM unit and rearview cam kicks in once you go into reverse. Can also link up additional cams if needed. Also, the unit has enough AV/Audio in/out inputs for other devices, including up to 3 amplifiers. Theatre-style noise control within the cabin is also built in. Ipod and USB connectivity is standard. Soksta: I also managed to configure the steering wheel controls to effectively pick up and disconnect phone calls, through Subaru's Canbus system. Will post up pics soon as I am just finishing up at the workshop and going out for some drinks. Cheers. |

Below is the comparison between the factory CD player and the new GPS head unit:

Each of these buttons can be programmed individually to activate: Main screen, GPS screen, Phone answer on, Phone answer off, Mute(obviously), Vol+, Vol- and (CH+ and CH- if you have added the optional Digital TV antenna.) I will be posting up more pics tomorrow. |
Too good Mao - too good.

I will put up a couple more shots of the installation and functions of this unit. Also note that this unit comes with a remote controller as well. Thanks to PK26 for the chance to install it into his WRX. Installation of this unit takes me 5mins now while you wait. If you require the rearview cam as well, installation time will be 1hr.

Note that every harness has its own part number as can be seen in the pic. These are factory part numbers which means that every individual part of this unit can be replaced, regardless whether it is in or out of the 1-year warranty period. There are 3 options for red, blue and violet.Below is the violet screen shot. Red and blue shots can be seen in the pics from other illustrations below: Theatre style set-up: PIP (Picture in Pucture): I an choose to have 2 screens on at the same time. I can also use the touch screen to move the picture to any position on the screen. In this instance, I have GPS on while the DVD is playing. (Sorry for the bad pic). Hi Mao
I'm in Adelaide and would be interested in getting one of these for my 2010 WRX Hatch which has the factory navigation HU... my understanding is that the Navi unit has the older style 14-pin harness - do you know if there's a plug & play solution? Also, are the bass/middle/treble bands assignable - or is there a separate parametric EQ somewhere in the menus? Cheers, DV |
Can you watch digital TV on this thing?
|
Sending PM.
Bass, Mid and Treble bands are adjustable, but no full EQ. You can add an external EQ through the rear inputs. There is also a Spectrum analyser display -- Sorry for the blurry pic. Yes Digital TV is available on this unit as an option. You need to purchase the optional Digital TV antenna for this.
Cheers.
Can you watch digital TV on this thing?
|
Sorry for thread hijack, kit being offered by Mao looks to be pretty damn good for the price, get on it folks!!
Good value for money, off topic I know but I wish someone made a unit like this for the VE commodores.
There is a kit you can get which you can use any double din head unit you like with navigation etc but you lose the HVAC nice looking controls and end up with a whole heap of buttons. Functionality - check, Aesthetics - Ba bow. Hi Guys,
Have received plenty of enquries for this unit for the Impreza GC and GD, Forester SF and SG. I will be bringing in another unit which has the exact same functions. Will update shortly |
Mao, in the standard MY11 WRX (non-premium) I have a centre console USB. Can this be integrated with this unit to retain functionability?
|
I am pretty sure it has been done.
Are you able to take a shot at the back of this factory usb port?
Mao, in the standard MY11 WRX (non-premium) I have a centre console USB. Can this be integrated with this unit to retain functionability?
|
I have spent quite a bit of time on the audio of the late model GR/GH Imprezas.
Below is install of the Factory Underseat subwoofer on the GR STi the factory GPS/DVD system. I have also set up the aftermarket GPS/DVD Touchscreen unit on my in-store audio display for those of you who want to have a feel and listen before purchase.
All functions are operational including reverse cam, ipod connectivity, GPS, subwoofer etc. |
