Formula 1 Season 2012

It's on :D

Melbourne P1 has started.

Heres hoping for a Webber / Ricciardo 1,2 finish :p

ImPreSiV 16-03-2012 11:13 AM

Never going to happen, but I wish Dan all the best in his first full season! Be great to see a Perth local standing on the podium once throughout the season!

Whats the tip for the championship? Vettel (again?)

b32 16-03-2012 11:27 AM

You'd have to say Vettel. Unless some of the other cars (McLaren) have major improvements this year.

Unfortunatly Webber seems to struggle on the Pirellis and you would have to assume this will be his last year. It would be awesome if he actually managed to get a win in his home GP though.

Eitherway I'm just looking forward to some good racing and hope the 2 Aussies get some decent results.

tommo 16-03-2012 11:31 AM

I think webber will have 2 seasons left (including this one), Hope Dan goes great, he is a great bloke and deserves his shot..

Very stoked it's all back on, watching live timing now :)

kid 16-03-2012 11:35 AM

Yoyo,

What apps do you guys use for F1 live timing? Just got an iphone and looking to take full advantage....

Also Webber had his best shot two years ago....last season was incredibly frustrating as a webber fan....

johnvk7 16-03-2012 11:41 AM

I think its a bit early to say Vettel is favourite, last lap on Sunday will give a better indication of how everyones going.
Remember, the cars are very different this year. Exhaust, aero and crash test rules have dictated change.
It depends whos adapted best.

F1 live timing. Free to register.

App link available on the page if required.

Master D 16-03-2012 11:50 AM

i just bought the offical app for my phone. $30 bucks which is steep but i use it all year so meh!

TheDoctor 16-03-2012 12:09 PM

I've been using the live timing on my laptop and will probably get one of the apps too. It will be interesting to see if the new regulations make many changes to the field this year.

kid 16-03-2012 12:15 PM

Hmm yeah funny how the f1 windows app is free but the ios version is 30 bucks lol

tommo 16-03-2012 12:43 PM

Go to NewsOnF1 - Formula 1 Racing News, Information, Results, Statistics, Analysis, Comments, F1 Tickets, F1 Tours and Books from News On F1 they have a live commentary via forum, you can ask qu's etc.. I use this in conjunction with the F1 website for live timing..

tommo 17-03-2012 03:00 PM

Yeew its on... also FYI if your live timing via internet is not working, use internet explorer and clear your browsing data and cache, re-log in and it works..

lets go ricciardo and webber!!

Gk_ 17-03-2012 03:41 PM

D.ric! In 6th hopefully he holds on for the top ten, 4 mins to go!!! What a champ

tommo 17-03-2012 03:51 PM

Top 10!! yeew!!

Gk_ 17-03-2012 04:10 PM

i would be astounded if webber hung around any further after this season, he has truly had his opportunities!

wild_rx 17-03-2012 07:47 PM

Was nice to see that red bull aren't dominating from the start!

The mercedes look to be quite good, brawn has obviously come up with something good, should be a very interesting race/season

They will want to give the toro rosso boys 2 years I think.. and they won't put someone else in the car besides one of them. I think Webber will do ok this year, if Massa still has a seat then Webber def still deserves one..

ALEX. 17-03-2012 10:32 PM

I think it's whether Webber wants one actually! If anyone's ready his book and seen a few interviews, they'll know that Webber doesn't see too much point in continuing if he doesn't think he can win.

He had his best chance in 2010. 2011 was ok, particularly if you take out Vettel who dominated. But for both of those seasons he was in arguably the best car yet still couldn't do it.

I think Webber will want to call it quits at the end of the year of he doesn't win (maybe even if he does!) or at least place very close to the eventual winner (from a point perspective). As you say Tommo, RBR may very well want him to stick around... but looking at RIC and VER's quali results today (even though it's early days of course) you'd think that they may feel that one of them will be able to take his place by years end of he wants to call it quits.

Saint_23 17-03-2012 10:46 PM

Great qualifying sessions today. Great to see Ricciardo in the top ten.

Bring on the race tomorrow!

I agree we can now see what Ricciardo is made of, I hope that he shines this season! Started of the opening qualy well

monkeee 17-03-2012 10:59 PM

Missed qualifying so I don't know all the details (apart from the F1 article) but as above good on Ricciardo for top ten.

Ferrari 12th and 16th....wow.

Gk_ 18-03-2012 05:03 PM

Well done to ricciardo !! Finished 9th after a ugly start.going to be a killer season

TheDoctor 18-03-2012 05:04 PM

Well run by Ricciardo. Interviewed well after the race too.

Good race. Lots of significant passing in the pack. Looking forward to round two already.

tommo 18-03-2012 05:20 PM

Well done ricciardo!! looks to be a great season ahead, but the usual suspects still seem to have the race pace... and webber still needs to learn how to get the red bull off the fkn line!!

Dan [GTI] 18-03-2012 05:24 PM
webber still needs to learn how to get the red bull off the fkn line!!
You can be the best driver but if you cant use your grid position to your advantage then you have a very hard fight on your hands.

You can still win but when your at the front thats where you want to stay... not lose all your hard work in qualifying and have to make up for it the whole race.

wild_rx 18-03-2012 06:04 PM

Seems there will be about 7/8 of the teams battling for points this year which will be nice

teejay 18-03-2012 06:05 PM

Poor Maldanondo - he would be hating himself right now. Great race, and so so so very happy to see Williams back in the upper midfield.. hopefully the beginning of a comeback to the front.

Points for Dan = awesome

Vettel splitting the Maccas = :( but still bodes will for the Maccas.

Saint_23 18-03-2012 07:17 PM

Racing = Win

Very happy to see Dan Ricciardo score some points. It was great to see lots of good racing for a change.

Channel 10 broadcast = fail

Greg Rust is a twat. I hate the way he pronounces Ricciardo as "Ricardo". How hard is it to get it right?

And what was with the morning breakfast couch with some random presenters interviewing washed
Australian idol rejects like Rob Mills?!??! What the fuck did any of that have to do with F1???

When Dave watches the F1, he wants the F1. Period. :D

How to pronounce Ricciardo: Rik-e-ar-do.

Coming over from NZ and having to get used to the coverage here has been painful. Back home we just get the BBC commentary the whole way through from start to finish no annoying panelists and only one ad break.

Yup I miss the BBC commentary too, although they are blatantly gunning for the likes of Button & Hamilton so Aussie viewers might whine about lack of Webber worshiping.

Good race, shame about that dude on the last lap, but hey that's racing! I haven't watched it in a good few years and it was good to see some decent overtaking happening, especially on a street circuit.

According to Greg "Rusty" Rust he has spoken to Daniels Parents and they said they pronounce it "Ricardo" hence why the Sky commentary boys Martin and David say Ricardo as well.

Being from an Italian background it should be pronounced Rik-e-ar-do.

tarmac 18-03-2012 11:01 PM

My favorite bit was when kimi said F1 was easier than WRC

tommo 18-03-2012 11:02 PM

I used to race against him in karts and always thought it was pronounced Ricardo.. As the commentators say it..

Top-Deck 19-03-2012 10:17 AM

SOO happy the F1s are back on, especially seeing two Aussies race in competetive cars! Great work to Webber for his best finish in Aus (pity about his terrible start though!) and huge effort from Ricciardo to fight back from his poor start as well :) it seems he has definitely got the goods for the gig and nice to see him stay so switched on right up until the very end ;) refreshing to see someone as excited as he was after finishing 9th too!
Looks to be the most tightly fought season in a while, bring on the next race already!! :D

p.s- my respect for Alonso continues to grow with each race, that guy is incredible in a car that is clearly well off the pace!

Weirdly I heard this from a few friends as well...now im confused.

From a news conference in 2011:
Q: (Mike Doodson – Honorary) Daniel, some of us find it intriguing that your name is written one way and you pronounce it another way. Have you considered going back to pronouncing it the way that generations of Ricciardos presumably did in the old country? After all, it could be an important factor when Ferrari comes knocking on your door in a few years time.
DR: An interesting question. I guess that growing up in Australia, coming from an English speaking country, to try and get people to say it as the Italians would, to roll the R and give it the expression, it doesn’t really come out the same way. I will always be known as saying Riccardo and you sort of cross out the second i. In Italy – as my father is Sicilian – they will say Ricciardo or however an Italian would say it, probably. So yeah, I say Riccardo because it’s a bit easier for most people. That’s how it was but I guess the Italians are more than welcome to say it how it probably is meant to be said.
So basically if you can say it properly then its ''Ricciardo'' but if you cant do that ''Ricardo'' will suffice.. pretty simple really
I can sympathise with him as my nickname is easier to say than my real name :p

b32 19-03-2012 02:23 PM

No different to how people say Vettel 2 different ways :)
