He will never recover, it is absolutely impossible for the brain to 100% heal itself once damage has been done. This is a tragic accident and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

How on earth can you possibly say this?

Do you know the family or any of the individuals involved?
Have you spoken to the doctors treating them?
Unless you are a qualified neurosurgeon and have directly evaluated the individual yourself,
stop making statements based upon media hearsay.

This sort of thing really gets under my skin.

St Dave as I have already stated I work in the area of Acquired Brain Injury rehab and can say that what I have said is the truth. Even a minor brain injury causes issues for a person and their loved ones. An injury as severe as Michael's will cause a range of impairments depending on the location of the haemorrhages. Patients that remain in comatose states have extremely severe brain injuries and end up very impaired (disabled) as a result. I'm not talking out of my arse herein talking from experience with my own clients who e experienced similar injuries. I'm the person that helps their famird pick up the pieces when the person injured leaves hospital. I work closely with Neurosurgeons, Neurologists, Rehab Medicine specialists, OT's, Physios and Speech Therapists!

As with spinal injuries someone with a brain injury never fully recovers.

Richard Hammond in his brain injury - note the memory impairment, emotional problems and difficulty with spatial awareness. All very common impairments resulting from brain injury.

Wawa, while I understand you work in this field, I still don't believe that is enough reason to justify your opinion. Each case is different, until there is word from his camp as to the true nature of his injuries, it's all just speculation.

I work in the field of oil and gas engineering. I work closely with engineers, draftsmen, etc.
Doesn't make me qualified to pass judgement on a fucking gas plant I have never set foot on.

Yes this is true however the longer someone is in a coma the more severe their impairments will be. I've done extensive reading of research into traumatic brain injury and I believe in my professional opinion that he will not just get up and walk away from this like some of you seem to believe. The problem is that brain injury is an 'invisible disability' meaning that it can't be seen.

Dave believe whatever you bloody well want!
