Australian internet filter

The current and new labor goverment is trying to implement a mandatory filter over our internet at the isp level aka the great fire wall of china.

Need to take action now, because once the technology is in place who knows what will suddenly disappear from our internet.
as usual the 'save the children excuse' is being thrown around with the governments own tests showing an 80% drop in internet speeds.

there will be a choice between two black lists, one 'safe' for children and one that blocks out illegal material and god knows what else.
of course it will never actually accomplish its main goal as children are far too clever. But likely just end up as a mainstream censorship tool.

and at least sign the petition if not send a letter to conroy

I think it will turn into something which ISP's will be forced to provide as an 'option' or 'recommendation' which can be applied to any account.

There will have to be an option to not have that applied to your account though surely??

Anonymous proxies over VPN's or simple SSL. That way they will not
know what you are surfing and will not be able to block it.

From an IT perspective it is impossible unless they can also control our PC's.

Doubt anyone will read it so I signed as Donald Duck with one of my shitty G mail addy's, fucked if you know who they will sell your info to, no disclaimer to sat they won't.

The plan is a blacklist for 'child safe surfing' and you can then switch that off where they will only block 'illegal' stuff.

There is no turn it off and have full internet access.

Krudd just turned us into China if this goes ahead...

So Tiananmen square never happened?

Where will they draw the line on their classification on illegal or immoral content?
