iv repaired a few 360s with this problem (electronics tech) if you follow the tutorial you can resolder the gpu safely, dont do the towel trick its pretty stupid

Seriously, don't bother dicking around with it yourself, this happened to mine about a month ago, so I went onto www.xbox360.com.au and filed a repair request, and because it is the ring of death your warranty is extended for three years (I bought mine ages ago, the other warranty is void, but this problem is extended warranty) and they send you an email with an address and you stick your box in a box, stick the label on the front and send away, postage paid. Costs nothing at all, have it back in about three weeks good as new.

MS's repair has a pretty good turnaround and i mean if you cant live without your 360 for 1-2 weeks then you got other problems hahaha

just remmeber, the RROD warranty does not transfer or apply to the second owners of these consoles - i almost got caught out and would have had to pay for the fix at about ~$150 IIRC

Another thing to try, mine will not work unless its in its own electrical socket.

Plug it in a double adaptor, I get the ring of death, plug it straight into the wall, workes fine.

well looks like im in the same boat . playing COD5 tonight, and after a hour of playing the xbox froze up, made static noises, and became unresponsive. turned it off...10 seconds into it it persisted, turned it off again and back on now its got 3 red rings . Sent an email of to xbox waiting for there reply. siighhh

From the day you send it off it should take 2 weeks to get it back.

I would call as its heaps quicker and if you jump up and down enough
and ask for compensation you might just get a free game like me.

Just tell them even though they are fixing it free of charge you are still
without a console and its totally unacceptable.

that towel trick is fking hilarious, also setting your xbox on fire with petrol might resolder a bad joint!

Have you registered a windows live account with xbox. I did with mine and registered the repair in less then 5 minutes, freaking heaps quicker and easier then the first time I had to send it off and use the phone.
