There has been reports of those rear fans "intercooler" causing
more problems.

I did some research on them some time ago and got nothing but bad reports
from actual gamers forums not the tech product forums.

Taken from a post of a microsoft xbox360 technician:

"The Intercooler drains a large amount of power when the console starts up, which causes certain components to not get the power they need to run correctly, which can then lead to the death of the console

The second rep stated:

"That they had seen “scorch marks” on the console from the Intercooler and if you send in your Xbox 360 and these scorch marks are present, Microsoft will send you your console back untouched as the Intercooler is not a licensed Microsoft product"

But if it works for you i wouldn't worry about it.

I have a late model Falcon, not really concerned about cooling issues. The design is meant to have been revised so eliminate these problems. Runs a lot quieter as well during gaming.

Hey Rich there has been many reports of falcons still getting RROD and
E74 failures thats why the JASPER revision has been released.

Saying that it will probably be a hit and miss with which consoles die
as not everyone uses them the same.

Some people play them constantly and others play them every now and then.

Im a big 360 fan but really shits me that they still havent eliminated
these problems.

Yeah, i think the solder on the boards was the main issue on the first one, combined with heat yeah? My console certainly pushes some fairly warm air out while gaming, but it's well ventilated.

What's the low down with those fan packs which plug onto the Console? I was under the impression they were a bad idea as they are drawing power from the console which may already be straining when under full load.

I'm pissed off at the new xbox live interface... has a few bugs that won't let some mates join parties/games as it says network connection error for parties and some other crap for game invites, hope they get it fixed soon!!!!!

The intercooler is the fan pack. So far I've been using one for ages and sine using it no problems. Mine RRODed before I used it and it also would sometimes overheat. now its all sweet. Pretty much everyone I know with a 360 has got one now and no rrods so far... don't know what brand the guys on those forums were using but mines a nYko Intercooler EX.

Yeah i wouldnt touch those fans at all! draining much needed
power from the console doesnt seem good at all.

I think there will be continued problems with the 360
until the rumoured 360 2 aka 720 comes out in the
future but no info on possible release date.

Ive got a Xenon release console and my sister has a falcon
and we've both had ours die twice now.

She hardly plays hers and i give mine an absolute flogging!

I bought a little isolating fan that sits about half a metre away from
the tv and console just to get rid of some of the heat for summer.

We will see how it goes this thursday when its supposed to be 39'c
hopefully it survives

We should start a reliability thread for the 360

nYko is the main culprit but as i said before if it works for you then stick
with it but my advice to others is to stay away from them.

Do a search on the nyko on google and there will be pleanty of stories
just dont believe the product review posts as they will sugar coat it.

I have the EX, after a bit of research it would seem the problem was with the original nYkos and that they fixed it with the EX. Apparently the old version was alot looser and it wasn't that it was draining power (it gets alot of power anyway) it was that if it was loosely moved it could shortcircuit the board and melt shit.

I have recently been saving my games to the hard drive. I have found that the unit not only runs cooler but also quieter and faster (obviously to quicker loading times).

I have looked at a few of those intercooler units and found one by a company called "HIVE" at JB's that seemed to be quite reasonable (only because the other one i saw left your console in the vertical position which i just dont trust). Then again if something is gonna drain power from my console then i am not interested.
