Having problems with Vista on my machine. Whenever i reboot i get a dwm.exe error for vista? I have updated all my drivers and also tried to use the repair program on the vista disk...

Its a process used to run the pretty desktop crap called aero. Try turning off aero and that might fix it.

dwm.exe is a service for Aero(fancy transparent windows and such , desktop window management)

May be that you need to stop and start the service again, ensure that its set to startup:/automatic.

See the last screenshots here for instructions
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...is-it-running/

Install nvidia drivers again if you havnt already.

I have disabled it and this has fixed the error but if I try to restart it I get the error straight away?

Any ideas on what else to try?

Do you get an error code when it appears ?
I forgot to ask:

Have you switched to Vista Basic theme and does it still appear.
Or witch to classic theme, does it still appear?
What version drivers are you using, try a different version perhaps as well

Not the answer to the problem, but helps try identify why its occuring.

Check that you also have the latest DirectX updates installed. March 2009 is the latest version.

You will probably have to edit the registry and take Aero out of the Run procedure, otherwise it will start everytime.

nah i know what this problem is...

have you installed an older version of Nero at all on it?

older versions of Nero (below 8) have a spack about Vista. Even though 7.5.7 is supposed to work.. it sometimes fucks up. Rundll is also known to crash with this bug..

the problem you are getting is related to the Nero installation corrupting the image previewing. If Nero is set as the default app for any picture viewing or video viewing then it will spack out and crash DWM.EXE every time you are in Windows Explorer.

i.e. lets say you go to my computer and its fine, then lets say you click into Pictures.. then suddenly DWM crashes. Thats why.. all the images loading in thumbnail version is what crashes it.

There is a workaround fix to it if i recall correctly.. its basically where you can turn off showing thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer universally.. that fixes it. Still, its caused by a dodgy/old Nero and its probably best you piss it off and get a newer version and fix it..

Tried this last night as I thought it maybe this and still no luck. I remember the issue starting after updating directx so i am going to try and rollback to an older version
