Default Playstation wiped after update.

A little while back the playstation popped up with an update needed.
So I did it as I always do. It seemed a serious update as it said you'll never be able to run another OS on your system again. This didnt bother me as i have no desire to run linux or any other nerdlinger programs on my PS3.

Anyway, i turn on the PS3 today to find every single one of my save games and trophies gone. And my background image is gone too.

Has this happened to anyone else?

No, but yesterday a friend of mine told me not to update my PS3.
He was reading an article about all sorts of problems with the last 2 updates sony has released.
They have a new 3D setting of some sort which apparently has been causing all sorts of problems.

I wish your friend was my friend...
The option to "sign in" to the PSN has gone now, and has been replaced with "sign up".
It appears as if my PSN account has been wiped too. Which probably means I've lost all the shit i've bought off it too.

Its currently downloading another update as we speak...
Can't wait to see whats in store for that one.

I also got the "you'll never be able to run another OS on your system message...etc". But it didnt "wipe" my machine, or saved games, trophies etc.

I fixed it. It was a good old fashioned ID-10-T error.
My normal username is Hurtenstein, but years ago i set up a japenese login under the name hurtenstIEn in order to get stuff from the Japanese PSN.
Somehow i've managed to sign in under the old account i never use...

After i installed the latest update, the PS3 reset it self and i signed in as Hurtenstein like usual and everything is there like it always was.

What a 'Tard.

I've done all the latest updates without issue. Must be a bit of hit and miss on these things.

I havent had any issues with the latest updates either, I have a fairly large group of mates within the psn community as well (over 200) and none of them have had any issues with the latest updates either. All due respect to your friend but I call bullshit.

If anyone is having issues with anything Playstation related I would suggest your first call be to playstation support 1300 365 911. I have called these guys a few times with various issues (some simple some total death of my ps3) and I would recomend them every time without a doubt. You get to talk to an Aussie! A real one with an Aussie accent and everything. And the people you talk to actually game so they arent reading from a book with no real clue as to what ur on about. They have never failed to help me out and fix the problem.

There are plenty of cases of firmware updates killing blu ray drives, freezing systems, game glitches etc.
One chap even filed a law suit against sony for Version 3.0 killing his blu ray drive (only in the US!)

Pretty much since version 3.0 was released last year, there have been more and more complaints.

There is actually law suits getting filed in Australia also. Wont be upgrating my PS3 (phat), still stuck on old firmware. There are still ways to access the PSN. Once 3D games come out ill buy a new PS3 which will be better suited to the new Blurays and games.
