DFI Lanparty motherboards - opinions?
Hey all,
Looking to do a system upgrade... leaning strongly towards a P45 chipset mobo, preference towards Gigabyte or maybe Asus. My searches have recently come up with the DFI Lanparty mobos; does anyone on here had any experience with them? Any issues? Is support good? The mobo I'm chasing is Intel LGA775 platform to fit my Q6600, must have as a minimum DDR3, PCIe x 16, 2 x PCIe and (2 or 3) x PCI 2.0. Must be name brand such as Gigabyte with user friendly OC options. Forget Asrock, Foxconn, MSI, Intel. The ones catching my eye atm are: http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/...ducts_id=35451 and LANPARTY UT P45-T3RS Opinions appreciated, Cheers

gigabyte = ej255
asus = ej207 except asus are probably as big in terms of features asus has better capacitors etc. and can take a lot more shit than gigabyte had 1 gigabyte board, switched to asus to give it a try, and the next two mobo's i bought after that were asus |

I wouldnt use an ASUS board again.
I've had 3 ASUS boards before and 3 Gigabyte boards. All 3 gigabyte boards still work. 1st ASUS board - Plagued with IRQ conflicts, shortly there after, board died. (4 yrs ago) 2nd ASUS board - Chipset melted (2 yrs ago) 3rd ASUS board - Didnt work when I bought it, replaced it under warantee, board lasted 5 months, Chipset died. (1 yr ago) Gigabyte by far most reliable boards Ive ever used. (MSI being the worst) But thats my experience, Im sure other people will be different. |

gigabyte boards are definitely better then asus.
I am pretty sure DFI have gone under and dont produce any more motherboards. You may want to read into it. DFI boards are only really good if you would like to overclock your cpu as they have an advanced overclocking features. |

there's no solid evidence to suggest that gigabyte are better than asus, however looking on most forums the general consensus seems to be that gigabyte have raised their mobo's to a standard that is now equal to asus.
just google asus v gigabyte v DFI 2010 or something here's one link http://forums.overclockersclub.com/i...owtopic=172268 OC club is usually a good resource |

Been selling Asus boards for years and to date have only had one come back for replacement - and i'm 99% sure that one got screwed over by some nasty power fluctuations.
However i've had to do warranty returns on 4 Gigabyte mainboards (1 of them twice) due to sata controllers failing and a 2 that just died completely. That said i've always thought both Asus and Gigabyte are both strong manufacturers. It used to be that Asus had more features and/or benefits (like software or extra cables), however i believe of late Gigabyte have become alot more competitive in this area.

I never found the gigabyte mobo's to be all that good from reviews back when I was right into hardware and did lean towards asus. I guess just too many DoA gigabyte boards or working on other peoples systems which had board issues using gigabyte.
DFI, if you can get hold of there stuff, made amazing boards... about 4 years ago (im using a LanParty UT NF4 based system, it rocks). The support, IIRC, was forum based run by an (ex??) employee. Fairly sure its gone - yup http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/216782-30-street-more. It was a very good forum at the time. Not sure what support is like these days. Other companies woke up to this (really nice boards) and really started to make mass produced enthusist systems about 2 years ago which in a lot of cases out performed DFI offerings. I still feel asus put together a good set of parts with everything you want (ie, easy to use bios for OC'ing) It comes down to want/need/cost. If you 'need' the latest and greatest, well just get the most expensive thing you can From the two links you have posted, they're some very different mobo's. The lanparty would be my pick. It has a better cooling solution for the chipset so you don't need to worry about that, power looks good too. |

When I upgrade or replace a computer, usually spend $250 - $400 on a board
