SSD Drives ?
I am thinking about changing HDD to improve system speed.
Was looking at some of these SSD drives as they seem better priced now days for the smaller ones. only thing i was worried about was few people said they are not good for windows drives as windows is constantly reading and writeing to it which can wear it out. Seems silly to pay for a drive that isnt going to last. any thoughts on this ? who else uses one ? here is a page of some to choose from. |

I have one in my work laptop. Definitely boots faster and such, good for download biggg files across gigabit LAN - Eg, Blu-ray rips and stuff.
There have been people taking out the factory drive out of PS3's and replaying with SSD. There have been mixed reports, depending on the game etc. http://au.gamespot.com/features/6192258/index.html http://www.tomshardware.com/news/pla...ing,11811.html And this is a test i did with SSD, file transfers to my NAS. It's not just the system speed increase, it's the no moving parts, less power consumption, less heat etc .. , albeit at a higher price and smaller capacity. I think most people at the moment as using SSD for their system drive and then having a 2TB SATA disk for example for storage etc.

did you do anything special when you installed windows 7 ?
I see windows 7 has features built in that detects ssd drives and operates differently. My main concern is Fail rate. As i keep reading they have a life span. |

Life Span is a million or 2 hours OR 3 years generally.
Most likely have upgraded by then Get a 80-120GB at the minimum. Best investment I have made so far in regards to PC. Also when purchasing make sure you pay proper attention to read/write speeds, not all SSD's are equal. |
