My dick your dick (DYNO's)
So, whats the differance generally between a Bosch, a Mainline, Dyno Dynamics, and whatever the hub dyno is called? How much do you loose in the driveline? 50hp? 37kw?
which reads lowest? which reads highest? Thread could answer alot of common questions relating to dyno's and cross comparisons, we all know that really you should stick to one dyno to do direct comparisons but I want to know weather 230kw at the hubs will get 200kw atw on a mainline....for example. Historically I have looked at one kw dyno reading, found a car that has done similar terminal speeds over the 1/4 mile, considered the weight of the car and then looked at that cars kw dyno reading to get a bit of a line.... Any other clues?

My car has previously dyno'd 195kwatw (DD - 5th gear), then recorded 225kw (295hp) on the APA Hub dyno 3 days later (5th gear).
On another occassion (different tune/setup) - my car has dyno'd 204kw on the DD (5th gear), then dyno'd 210 on the Mainline (this time in 4th gear). I haven't done a Mainline vs APA Hub dyno back-to-back comparision with my new set-up. PS - I only use a dyno for tuning, not for measuring dick size

Mainline is a DD with their own software - they reckon its more accurate then the DD - which cant be a bad thing.

The Mainline's an impressive bit of gear once you've been shown what it can do - once you get beyond the "how much power" phase and ask for other data plots, data logs, data tables, etc you soon understand why the tuner's like them more than the DD Dynos.

Same goes for Dynapack...plenty of scope for all sorts of data tables that DD just cant do.
Dynapacks always read a bit higher than DD/Mainline because of the lack of rolling resistance, but they are extremely repeatable. With my last tune, we did a few runs that were within a few tenths of a HP of each other. I prefer Dynapack because its how my car has always been tuned, and its comparable each step of the way so I can see how much progress I'm making with my mods. As long as you stick to ONE type of dyno, it shouldnt matter which dyno you use |

How can anyone say that a specific dyno is "more accurate" than another dyno? I'm pretty sure that they're designed as a tuning tool, and not some wank factor toy that needs to compare to some other dyno...?
A dyno is a tuning tool as others have said. The only real way to do it IMO is to figure out EXACTLY what the drivetrain loss is (not a guess), and then dyno the engine and work it out from there. DD/Mainline/Hubba/XSpeed/Wok/Ping Racing - Whatever.... end of the day its a number and it doesn't mean shit! Real figures are ones on that little bit of paper you get after you've had a run down that 400m bit of black stuff....

How many millions of threads are there on here proclaiming power figures, and how many people reply telling them how awesome they are - ALOT. Tuning tool or not those numbers stand for plenty.

dyno's are tuning tools as already stated and can not be compared to another vehicle as there a way to many factors to account for, i for one learnt the the hard way thinking my dyno printout made me king dick as im sure lots of noobs do. my recomendation would be do dyno your car stock so later you know sort of power your mods are making.
