Yeah the 05 got a canon mount steering rack but they are not as quick as RA ratios.

They did do normal Silver, 5 colours all up White,Black,Silver,Blue & CGM.

*They have a Helical front and Mech rear LSD.
*RE070 tyres
*Tightarse plastic coolant tanks
*Pretty much everything is covered except they changed the badging & stickers

exactly what fred said.. also the sti rear emblem is different and the side panels have blue suede surrounding the door handle.. Also the seats are a bit wider asfaik, sourced for the fat U.S drivers..

Seats are the same but with different trim, the US STi seats are closer in shape to what we get in the special editions that have leather & side airbags.

Can anyone explain what exactly a "cannon mount" steering rack is?

a Cannon Mount steering rack bolts directly to the front suspension subframe. it's a rigidity thing. improves general responsiveness.
apparently it also has an integrated damper of some sort to reduce shock rebound.

05 sti with genuine forged aftermarket internals would be a perfect modding base.

would be very hard to beat from a value point of view, would even give the evo's a run I reckon..

Thing is though Pete, EVO8 MR's can be had for about $45,000 for a 2005 model with about 20,000 Kay's which is pretty similar price point to the 05 STi's. I know which car I would choose.
