well the X was already there in all their models... makes sense to continue

Gen1 Liberty had:
LX
GX
RS (rallysport?)

Gen1 Impreza had
LX
GX
RX
WRX

makes sense that they would just tack some siq letters onto the end

got the answer from the ppls at subaru AUSTRALIA....

email as follows...

Thank you for visiting the Subaru web site and for your email.

To answer your question, WRX stands for World Rally Car X. The X
differentiates in the sense of "X opposed to Y".

Thank you for your email and I hope that this information helps put a
rest to any potential future arguments.

Kind Regards

WRY?

So thats 'Generation X'? or as an axis on Cartesian coordinate system? If so, what about the z axis? and the 4th dimension, T (for time)?

I always thought it was extras, as in options etc.

World Rally Extras (WRX)
Rally Extras(RX)
Rally Sport(RS)
General Extras (GX)
Lousy Extras (LX)
