Default Buying Second Hand Tyres

http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/sale/11952-bridgestone-re070s-sale.html

Im interested in buying these tyres

I have a lowered car, and im running 205/45/17 at the moment.

Can i put these larger tyres on my car?

Are there any factors i need to consider?

Im not even sure if youll be able to fit them on your rims....theyll prolly be too wide to sit right on the rims!

You can put them on your rims. Im not saying they are the right size for the rim though. What size is the rim (in width) They will be quite a bit larger than your tyres though (in rolling diameter) so they may rub, and put your speedo out a little bit.
What type of car is it?

dont! 225's will rub the rims and also the sidewall flex will be screwed, handle like utter turd.

the max you'd want to go would be 215. but even then its only going to be better in a drag race situation where you actually need more grip, which isnt likely unless its a very high powered wrx.

otherwise your better off with the stiffest sidewalls which = 205 for your rim.

I had a set of michelin 205's and they were brilliant but wore, then i got a set of
el cheapo 205's and im pretty sure they are rubbing. Can someone explain what each of these numbers mean. and their significance to me.

why will 225's have sidewall flex? He could have 8 inch rims. I have 215's on my car and they are fine. What makes you think that your tyres are rubbing? do they make strange noises when you go over bumps? around corners?

Tyre measurements are made up as follows:

For example 205/45/17 means

Tyre Width of 205mm
Aspect Ratio of 45% (height of the sidewall compared to the total width of the tyre)
Rim Size of 17 inch

Depending on your rim width, putting a 225 tyre on a rim that is too thin will give you a bulging tyre look. The tyres will look something like /____\ rather than |____| which is what you are meant to have. This can cause a weaker sidewall, rubbing etc etc.

First thing to do is measure the width of your rim, then you can work out a maximum acceptable tyre width from there.
