Question Need new Rotors for 3 years old car?

Ok... just serviced my WRX MY04 from Melville Subaru for 60,000km service (55k on the clock). Wallie from Subaru told me, I need new Rotor (front) for my car. I asked the price and he told me about $700 for front sides.

My quick question, the car is only 3 yrs old, never been to track and bone stock. Does it need to change the rotor disc that fast? If it does, $700 is too much or just about right?

At the end, I told them not to go further with new rotor, just do what ever it needs (ie, skiming the rotor).

Cheers
Gerry

Hmmmm sounds very familiar - i took my then 3 yr old MY00 to Melville and got told the exact same thing ($800). Thought it was a rip off so took it to Peel and they skimmed the rotors and they were fine until i sold the car.......

I needed new rotors on my MY 98 at about 50000km. They are quite soft and do wear quickly.

I was told rotors were covered by your factory warranty for the first 3 years.

I got a factory 5 year warranty for that reason.

Sounds like BS to me. Give me a week in the Adelaide hills ( and quite a few tanks of juice ) and they will be stuffed.

Consumable component I would be stunned if they replaced them under waranty.

A manufacturing fault would be differant but plain worn down to the minumum thickness, No way.

if in doubt, just take the wheel off get some a pair of Vernier scale's
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernier_scale) and measure the rotor for yourself.

its not possible. whoever told you, told you porkies.
like someone said, its a consumable, you use it, you pay for it
Subaru will go broke if they did that.

how much brake you use comes down to your driving style

Lol!

I'm suprised they didn't tell you brake pads, tyres, oils and fuel are covered under that too.

A rotor is a consumable item, like tyres and brake pads. Depending on how you drive (don't need to go to the track to cook 'em) / what pads you are using, you could have gone through them in 3 years. What you will find is Subaru is making you aware of it before it needs to be done. i.e Your discs are low (still legal) so you should look at replacing them.

A word of advice, do NOT cheap out on items such as brakes or tyres. Tyres are what keeps your car on the road and brakes are what stops you hitting trees and other things. Brakes are not just pads, it is also the rotors.

No point having the nicest car in Perth if it can't stop properly.
