Default Best model for track . only up to 99

What would be the best model to buy for using for the track either turbo or non model . It's gonna be a project and un-reg. It will be turbo'd for the track . mainly just looking for a body with either blown engine or small damage. Car will get stripped anyway.

Or would i be better off importing something which has an amount of mods done to it and can't be reg for the road.

A 99 wrx would be good but cost more would a earlier model be just as good in the handling as a 99.

u can import a decent RA for 10-12k,
theres also a non reg jap spec 02 sti over east for 20k (has 15k kms on it or something)
if ur budget is less u can get an older sti/wrx (95/96) from jap for 6k

If it's track only and you have the budget I'd look to japan. An sti-ra has all the toys and will be an awesome track car.

Handling is more or less the same in all models up to 99. Some of the specials (like the sti-ra have DCCD which can move power from front to rear to suit conditions/driving style).

Or if your budget can't go to the sti-ra look for a plain ra. It's lighter than the rest of the models and is geared for track work. Most cars from Japan have some mods. Problem is with the history. But if you are budgeting for blown engine it might not be a problem (i've now had 3 cars from Japan and had zero problems)

Carla's car is bombed for the track

But yeah as everyone has said, there are many available for importing. Obviously the only problem you can't drive before you buy - unless you fly to Japan

So cheap and so bombed plus no compliance!!

http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b81914266

that would go for 6k.. plus shipping and taxes would see it below 10k for a RA with cage...

v4 sti cheap cheap, though the end price could be alot higher of course.. http://page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m45397046

bargain basement gc8 - http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w16805057 but god knows what life its had to be about 1800 bucks.

of course if you dont know how the system works and have a broker over in japan, your costs go up by a margain... importing is a risky game at times.

p.s anyone for a spec c? : http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/103241876

or an ATS demo car? http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w16212170
