Shannons refused to insure me, first because I didnt have a garage, 2nd because when i got a garage they wanted 4500.
Then when i got the evo they flat said no. I dont bother with them anymore, GJ Shannons. |

Offtopic, how are you guys getting insurance through shannons? Everytime I have spoken to them they only wanted to insure classics or something really special. To quote the guy on the phone 'oh we don't do WRX's they're nothing flash'.
After hearing the good service people are getting it sounds pretty good.

My experience was that they are expensive
Wanted $1700 when my other quotes were $900-1100 (RAC HBF W.QBE) Was a while ago but makes you not bother checking with them again.

I think at Balistc says, it pays to know someone who works there, also potluck as to who you get on the phone.

If you have all your mods listed then you are fine, trouble starts happening when you have listed on your insurance that you have a stock my06 sti and you are actually running round in a 600 hp car. If you have your mods listen and they have chosen to accept the risk then you are fine.

Shannons are good to me.. My old car is insured with them for a lowly 450 bux a year on limited use full comprehensive (agreed value blah blah)... i obviously had to wait till i was 25 but meh... intend to upgrade the STi & Forry to Shannons as they also cover up to 20k on track work.

Basically because 1) my MY98 WRX is a daily driver 2) it isn't "modified enough" 3) isn't rare / classic / old enough 4) I'm not in a car club 5) I don't own another car which they deem as a classic.. But if I bought another car and garaged the WRX, apparently they might consider me as a client. They have taken on a couple of acquaintances with cars which are not what are generally accepted as "true classics" and which are definitely not in mint condition, purely because these people have cars which are over 25 years old, and which are not daily drivers. I would hope that if someone subjected an early WRX to a full (but essentially stock) restoration they would consider that person as a client, 'cause to me that's a pretty good sign of being an enthusiast. Given it's (motorsport) history a WRX is probably more deserving of 'classic' status than some of the cars that my acquaintances have had insured with Shannons. I agree though, that it is potluck / dependant on who you get on the phone, but, from Shannons' television ads, it does give the impression that they are a lot more open minded than my experience suggests Last edited by Pinky; 21-12-2007 at 01:16 PM. |
