Default Tyre option 06 STi

Off for a long road trip in August ( Tassie and possibly up to Cooma ) Have enough left on the RE070's to do the trip depending on how much fun I have in Tassie.

I do however want an option that is available almost everywhere in case I kill one. Don't want to be sitting in bumf^&k no where ( like Port Augusta or Launceston ) waiting for a few days for RE070's to turn up.

Requirements. Able to get from local tyre shop on short notice , Meet the load ratings so are legal on the car, Pretty good performance and preferably slightly better ride quality. Still a long trip home if I do need to replace on the trip a bit more comfortable and quiet would be nice.

070's will be a pain for that trip - They are too noisey.

Go something generic like hankook's before you leave. They will get you there and back with plenty to spare and easy to source. There's nothing wrong with driving on different brands of tyres front/back either assuming you will be driving on highways most of the time at normal speeds - Just match the load ratings and sizes correctly.

Will be having fun in Tassie so if one craps it is is a set of 4 of whatever I get. Had different front to rear ( think stock bridgies and federals ) front and rear on the MY98. Huge change in handling when I rotated them. Will never run different tires after my experience with them. No scares but certainly wasn't balanced in the handling.

Have done Adelaide and back on 070's before and arn't really that bad but think something a little less hardcore is in order for the next set regardless. Try help the Mrs. car sickness issues a bit. I know I'm a softy don't hold it against me.

I just bought some Yokohama S-drives. Pretty grippy, and also quiet... Haven't really explored the limits of grip in them yet, but once they heat up, they become a quite sticky..

Don't need them now while in Perth. Want a couple of backup options incase I need a set in a hurry while I am away. Hoping not to suffer a total destruction but it has happened before. Will check out the hankook's though.

The Yoki S-drives sound good but I do like being able to rotate the asymmetric tires to any corner. Directional sux for rotation options.

Bit hard to generalise what tyres are available at a shop anywhere in Australia.

All would depend on the shop and which tyres they are able to supply. All the decently priced tyres (~$300 per tyre) provide good handling and good road noise, so just choose a tyre with the correct road ratings and size. I don't see the point in getting recommendations for a tyre if you don't know where you will be replacing them.

If I was you I'd go for something like a Bridgestone RE001 Adreneline. These should be in stock at most Bridgestone Tyre Centress around. You may also want to consider using a 235/45 rather than the 225/45. the 235 is a commodore size so more likely to be available in country towns. To ensure availability I'd call a few of the smaller BTCs and see if they hold them in stock.

Bridgestone you can get almost everywhere? Have a look at Bridgestone G3's. Then ring a few tyre places in bumfuck no where and see if they stock them.

Like I said should be right to do the trip on the ones I got ( Guessing they will be pretty well shagged by the time I get home though ).

Just want a few options for if I kill one completely and get some dip shit who has no F&^king idea and thinks a retread will suit just fine. Prefer to sound like I know what I am talking about and a few pre prepared options will more than likely get you something better than saying what you got that will fit and getting some crap thats been on their shelf for the last 4 years cos no one wants them.

A little hard to do some research in a foreign town when your in a hurry.
