Club Spec Evo 4, more than just a pale face?
Hey lads,
Rounded up a bunch of wrxs to check out this saturday, one or maybe two of them being the club spec version. What exactly are the differences with this model besides a paint job to compliment a defect notice? I also understand that only 200 were released in Australia? I've also noticed club spec doesnt neciserally have to be yellow as there's a 97' blue club spec advertised somewhere that's blue? Just the limited edition factor is enough to make me want one, but i'm just curious. In any case i'll see how i go over the weekend! While i'm here Anyone got some preferences as to where they'd get a used car checked out NOR? Compression test - what exactley does it tell me and should i bother? EDIT: I couldn't see anything on the forum so i googled that shit, here is it for anyone else wandering. "The power stroke is the key to how a four-stroke engine turns explosive energy into useable power. If any or all of the parts that confine the explosion inside the cylinder become worn, engine performance suffers. Also you'll be out of pocket when you have to repair worn components. First, the engine cannot compress the fuel and air mixture enough to get the required for the big bang. Second the exploding mixture escapes past worn valves and seals, pistons and rings, and worn cylinder walls. Not only does the engine suffer a power loss, but also burns the fuel less efficiently. The engine may also begin to burn oil. The same worn rings and seals that let the explosion escape, also allow oil to get in. An engine compression test checks cylinder sealing ability one by one, and can help isolate internal engine problems." In summary, a compression test can fore see future internal problems which require costly rebuilding to fix up that are not so apparent from a glance Cheers and hopefully i'll snag a wrx over the weekend. Club Spec Evo 1's from 97 came in WR Blue (i think)
Club Spec Evo 2's from 98 came in WR Blue. Club Spec Evo 3's from 99 came in STi Grey + WR Blue (i think) Club Spec Evo 4's from 00 came in custard yellow Club Spec Evo 5's from 01-02 came in another shade of yellow (bug eye shape) and so on through out the years, altho they stopped doing yellow after the bug eye, the 03's + are usually a silvery grey, or WR Blue. As far as I know, there isn't actually a difference in the car performance wise. I think they came with a different interior (different colour seats) and maybe different wheels in some cases.. and a pretty sticker on the rear doors. As for getting the car checked out, ASG would be the go.. but i think they shut up shop for a while soon (unless they already have) to take a well earned break! Try Tenagah. Alright then i'll give them both a call some time today, other then a compression test is there anything in particular i have them look at, or will they do the whole car over on their own accord?

Just ask for a "pre purchase inspection", most shops do them

Most of the Club Spec series are limited editions with only cosmetic changes.
Ie. paintjob, leather or Alcantera seats, maybe a sunroof and different colored rims. the 99 Blue Steel metallic, Club Spec Evo 3 is the rarest of the series. (the post above is wrong) Has the best Blue/Black Alcantera seats and interior of all the GC8's as well. No split fold rear seat either. MMS, RMS, Tenagah, ASG - see workshop section for exact addresses for a compression test. Very good idea.

Cheers for the input i'll definately compression test the engine of whatever i choose. I'm generally pretty curious so i'll have to know.

Why did subaru even make those buckets with the red fabric, looks horribly average.. Entirely black or colour coding with the cars paint would have been much better.

You'll find the blue and red suits the WR blue gc8s imo, I can't stand the yellow inserts to be honest.
