More correctly you are not allowed more than 2 lights on at the front that exceed a certain wattage. Is it 12W? Could be a loop hole that could be exploited, 12W from some newage LED lamps is equivalent to 100W old school lamps. Or is that just another stupid question

Heh, yeah I think you are only allowed 55W on low beam (or is it 50W) and 60W on high beam. So by having your foglights on you have more than the low beam wattage beaming out of your car, making them high beams and thus illegal.

I'm sure we could do a dodgy with some LED's or something, but doubt Mr Plod will like that excuse

The old standards were based upon Wattage, but they changed it to Lumens years ago with the advent of HID & similar technologies producing more & more light from the same amount of power.
