i wouldn't recommend it, the oil works in collaboration with the fabric on the k&n's without the oil it would still suck in finer particles of dirt, the apexi material is much finer, it almost looks like velvet inside (see chee's pic above)

No worries, will invest in a paper type Pod - Any other our there other than the Apexi? And get my 'guys' to engineer it onto the endof the APS intake.

there is also the blitz sus, but they are not so good and let quite a few finer particles through, check out this unbiased filter test that was done:

http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/

i read this & then went out & bought an apexi

from what ive read, if you dont over oil the k&n filter you should be fine. mine has one on it, and it was put on before i bought the car and i havent had any problems. To eliminate any future problems anyways, when i service it i give the afm a clean with some electrical contact cleaner.

There's so much controversy about this issue that I don't know what to believe anymore. That's why I figured not to take the chance and consider using a paper filter.

But then I watched those videos on the k&n site and saw how much experimentation they went through to prove that the oil would not come off... now I'm not stupid and I know they would only publish media that would promote their product. And although it looked very convincing, I wouldn't be surprised if the experiments were rigged, or if negative results were filtered out (mind the pun!).

But still.... I think they have a point.
