Default Whats the difference, JAP SPEC 1999 STI motor??

Does anybody know the difference between a 1999 jap spec STI engine and the STI engines in the cars sold here. I just got my hands on one and i always hear people talking about the Jap spec being better for some reason.. If anyone knows i would appreciate the info.

Regards Brendan

Vf28 Aus spec
Vf29 Jap spec

Vf29 has slight (updated) compressor wheel design changes from vf28 but in reality...

same...same...

Jap ecu tuned for 100 ron fuel.....will ping on 98 ron in some instances (hot day & high load apparently).

Did you get the jap ECU?

Aus re-tune dropped 10kw compared to JDM STi....easily found again with exhaust and snorkelectomy.

Basic engine is the same.

I thought the AUS V5 sti was still 206kw and thats why some engines fried
due to not being tuned properly to 98.

Wasnt V6 sti retuned to 98 an only ran 195kw?

Never had a problem with my V3 pinging on 98 & I've done over 40k in it.
