Default New emissions testing laws...NOT COOL.

Taken from Antilag.com..

Quote:
Just a friendly reminder, as of today (FEB 2nd) all modified vehicles that get a defect notice will have to have an emissions test.

head to www.kec.com.au to find out more information in regards to this testing.

prices vary depending on the vehicle
I hear it costs around $220 for vehicle setup and $130 per hour for testing. OUCH.

Thing is dude they wont enforce it on a shitter, only modified cars.

So anyone pulled over by a cop on a power trip could potentially get fisted analy with no lube.

very true.

Interested to hear what brought on this decision. Emissions testing seemed to appear out of thin air.

haha back charge officer if only we could... would make them think twice, would never happen though sadly.

Insure car as a business car. Take any emissions testing and pit fees off taxable income as a claimed expense, plus a whole heap of other shit.

How do they determine what is deemed modified though?

Is a transformer sticker on a bunky $500 laser a modified car? It didnt come from factory with that.

My car is a conversion but basically stock compared to a WRX. Where do they draw the line?

Also would it be deemed to need the test as it is modified when pulled over or when getting to the pits? Ie if you have an exhaust and get stickered, then put on a stock exhaust to go over pits will it still need emission testing?

IM240 Test Procedure. How is it done?

The IM240 begins by driving the vehicle onto the dynamometer, activating vehicle restraints, properly placing the exhaust collection device, and positioning the auxiliary engine cooling fan.An inspector then "drives" the vehicle according to a prescribed cycle displayed on a computer monitor. The inspector follows the driving cycle by using the accelerator pedal and brake pedal to speed up or slow down just as if the vehicle were being driven on a city street.
The length of the IM240 test varies depending on the vehicle's emissions. To determine emission levels, second-by-second instantaneous emission measurements are taken and integrated by a computer. The IM240 is also able to measure fuel economy. The computer continually monitors and assesses the emission levels during each phase of the test and uses pass/fail algorithms to identify clean or dirty vehicles. As soon as the emission rates indicate that a vehicle is exceptionally clean or dirty, the computer automatically notifies the inspector to stop testing. For vehicles that are close to maximum allowable emission levels, the test may continue for a full 240 seconds. Thus, while the complete driving cycle is 240 seconds long, the average test time will be only two to three minutes.
On completion of the test, a pass/fail report, ( complete with an emissions computed graph ), is available for analysis.
