Spin on the topic then...

If you wanted to do a conversion, how would you go about getting the conversion car in?

Car would have to be imported as race/rally where you would need a race liccy to import? What race liccy do you need L2S or higher?

Yeah either that or cut it in half and put in a container. Not sure what cams license you need.

To bring a full car in you need to have a minimum of a level 3 which is now called national rally or national circut. To get this you have to do the observed license test and an online theoretical.

You also need to demonstrate some sort of history of motorsport. I applied for one and was able to show dutton etc and got the permit no problems.

The other option is to keep the shell in one piece but take all the running gear out. The only issue here is that you need to bring the running gear and the shell in in separate containers. Problem with this is that you have effectively brought it in as a "wreck" and therefore can not be licensed. There is also the issue of having something dissasemble it is Japan.

Cant you just buy all the running gear from the particular car you want to build, get a gx shell from wreckers or something, then transfer it all over? just a thought?

Thanks for all the info and advice guys.

I just wanted to try and keep in as original as possible
without doing a conversion.

It's been put on the back burner for now and am looking
into other options such as going OS for a year.

But the only problem with converting a gx shell id of thought would be going over the pits if you were ever yellowed, would it not come up with a N/A 1.8ltr? And there is this massive half cut truck turbo swinging in the bonnet scoop.

You can get a car in on a L2S. I did it with my 9GT. However like Brendon I could point to Duttons, SES etc as motorsport history.

i believe andrew (hybirdgx) bought a forester xs , stripped it, then a stripped forester sti came in by container and everything was bolted onto the xs shell. he had no problems licensing it too was told. maybe andrew could shed more light on this.
