The dealer told me that the tint holds the heat in between the internal shutter and the tint, and if left long enough in direct sunlight may cause the glass to crack.

who pays a dealer for tint !? - ....you don`t pay them, thats one of the first free-bees included in the driveaway price you hit them up for(along with mats, tow bar, stamp duty, locking nuts, full tank of fuel etc etc)

When I was selling Mazda's, I asked our tinter to do the missus' CX-7 he refused saying that it MAY cause the glass to crack however his boss has his tinted and it has been fine.

I didn't do it however a few weeks later a guy I sold a CX-7 to tinted his and had it at the airport all day, got back from a flight, jumped in, cranked the aircon and BANG massive explosion.

EDIT: I thought I still had the photos I took however I don't pretty much there was a massive round hole in the glass, big enough to get your head through and it did a good job of scratching all of his paint on the roof too.

I still want to get mine done but don't want to risk a new sunroof glass, they can't be cheap.

My last MR2 was a T-Top. The particular model I had was the very last of the MK1 wedge shape and came with factory tint...the roof panels were mirror tinted which only made it on to around 250 cars.

Never a problem and remember this is a 20 year old car! The panels would get incredibly hot though...you couldnt remove them with bare hands on a hot day.
