bah. 2 bloody accidents involvling wrx's and some dipshit politician reckons they are dangerous.
what a tunnel vision way of looking at it.

as far as they are concerned, other cars are 'safe' and wrx's make up the majority of crashes etc.... as previously said, its obvious that the government are trying to make themselves look like they are doing something about road safety....

Bit more than 2, remember the one that went through the bus & the one that hit the Escort van killing the old people, usually when they have an off it's a big one & it sticks in the media's mind like the fuckwits that they are..........also have a look at Pickles & Fowles damaged cars, there would be at least 20 WRX's come up every week.
Not having a go at WRX drivers as I have a couple & so do my kids but they do attract attention, Commie prangs are usually stolen by coons or driven by inexperienced 17yo's.

Isn't that the argument they are making tho, that they are driven by inexperienced 17 yo's? So why only target wrx's? The arguement has been made 100 times before, there needs to be some sort of power limit on the cars P platers can drive, no point only targeting a certain make or model.

Car clubs really need to start being a lot more out spoken on these issues too, its no good whinging about the stupidity of it on forums and doing nothing.

its time for everyone to go to the darkside........gets no attention from copper and also politicians....

seriously, i seriously doubt this has got anything to do with the car, in this scenario WRX, it's the person behind the wheel...drag racing on the street is just wrong, regardless what car you are driving.........

Couldn't agree more, 1750cc & must have standard factory exhaust so any engine mods are pointless, last thing you need is an inexperienced kid in a car that can get from 0 - 100 in 6 or less seconds.
No doubt there will be arguments from the young ones that say they never street drag or drive fast.............Then you don't need a fucking WRX, you can do the same things in an awd GX.
Also much less incentive to do stupid speeds when you look stupid trying to do them in front of your mates.
It's just unfortunate that WRX's have been involved in some pretty memorable prangs/incidences lately & the press/politicians need to pick on something that stands out, is affordable or only driven by people who actually enjoy driving, unlike your everyday run of the mill Commies & Falcons of which there are at least 10 in every street.

Next time they show on the news a car wrapped around a tree or lamp post, lets lobby to a politician about getting that particular make and model out of the hands of people under 30, even if its a bloody daewoo

Agree pimpreza, but then again, does anyone need anything more then a 3cyl charade if you are travelling from A to B? 99% of this forum wouldnt need a WRX, its more a luxury then a necessity, unfortunatley people take the luxury for granted. Growning old is not optional but growning up is meaning its not just young dudes that chuck skids (or try to.....). Off the top of my head i can remember 3 incidents not that long ago of wrx's being smashed.

Look at EYEZ old wrx, that was bent around a pole ffs. And i agree with pimp on the 1750cc and stock exhaust. Sure, if i was 17 again id be spewin with a restriction. Only problem would be regulating it as a traffic officer.

The thing that puts things in perspective for me is being in the old automatic Sigma with the old man when I was a kid and him taking most of the trip from Yorktown to Edithburg to get the old tonne out of the thing (23 km trip and sat on 155 till he found a big enough hill ).

The Pig stock did 161KP/h stock in the 400m at the plex.

Have teenagers abilities ( or sensibilities ) behind the wheel improved to cope with this sort of performance differential??? If anything I would say teenagers these days are even less prepared than they were 20 years ago when the old man would take you out and teach you on some of the dirt back roads well before you were allowed on the road.

^^^ couldnt agree more, gone are the days where kids are learning to drive in an old bomb out in the back paddock. with no compulsory driver training or advanced driving skills required to drive a performance car, its a recipe for disaster.

i say the compulsory insurance idea was ok.....

but if young people want to drive high power cars, i believe it should become compulsory for them to complete advanced driving courses in the nominated cars while they are still on their L's. until a driver is 'certified' to drive a car with a nominated power/weight ratio, they shouldnt be allowed on the road in that car.
