So you speak from experience ? Facts to back up your assumptions ?

Sounds good. Have you many mods or std STI ? Do you have any of the issues mentioned ..ie injectors freezing up ? Is cold start ok ? Apparently spark plugs last much longer and engine oil stays much cleaner ? Have you found this to be the case ? Was there many/any issues with the tune when you went from petrol to LPG ? Who tunes the car ? Thanks |

LPG is great stuff, but like gearbox oil, it stinks!
if you dont need any form of a boot, you should be doing it. the fuel has a longer shelf life and doesnt have the contaiminents/additives of petrol to carbon up your engine. if you have ever pulled down a lpg forklift engine, they are pritty clean inside compared to a diesel, they do so many more hours too. recommend you get a decent ECU to make use of it though.

Pigstiwagon ran his wrx on gas. He was doing research as he worked for a gas conversion company. I don't see the problem of running a car on gas only, tuned correctly, it would run better than being on fuel, as gas is higher ron and cleaner.
As far as I know, there are no approved conversions for wrx's so running them on gas is illegal. Search tho, coz I'm sure pigstiwagon had a thread on it a year or 2 ago |

If your going to run duel fuel ( rather than remove the petrol altogether ) then if you want the best out of it your also going to want the ability to run multiple maps.
They have run cars at Bathurst ( Pretty sure a V8 Supercar team did it one year ) and there is at least one rally team that runs on LPG in the UK. Can't say it was a good thing but they wouldn't have bothered if it was going to be a bad thing. When it comes down to it you have to decide why you want to do it. 1. Save money. Probably never going to break even with the expense involved if you are going to do it properly to keep the performance where it should be. 2. Just to do something different. Lot of dosh and loss of boot space just for something differant. 3. All out performance gain. Might be worth considering since you will be dropping a bomb on it anyway and you can do everything 100% right for the system. Personally I wouldn't on a Subi cos they really don't drink that much but I put it on the old Kinga years ago and it was great.

Nicebus,
many cars run fine on LPG, and it is an awesome fuel if the car is designed to run on it. ive seen some great power figures when run on oldschool V8's, but never in a wrx. imho, its not worth the benifits to convert your wrx. you will need to change everything about your engine - compression ratio, valve seats, injectors, fuel lines/pump/tank etc, retune from someone who knows gas?? Steve.

duel fuel is a complete waste of time, and why most of the taxi's in perth run like shit. fuel and lpg are 2 very different things, so no way 1 ecu map would be able to work properly and efficiently for both. If you are going to pay for a full gas conversion, remove the fuel tank and put a gas tank in its place, and have the car properly tuned for gas, you should get much better performance out of the vehicle, without a doubt.

Thanks... You are right if you have to change so many things as you suggest. I was under the false assumption that it would be a more simple job. I wouldn't want dual fuel , just gas. I reckon it doesn't hurt from time to time to try different things. As you say , some cars get good results. I'll ask the team as ASG next time i'm there what their opinion is. |
