Default MY09 Modifications

Hi

I rang Maximum Motorsport in Malaga to get a quote on a TBE and tune for my MY09 wrx. The guy there told me that he's done a handful of MY09's already and have made gains of up to 40kw (atw)..my questions are:

1. Has anyone here had their MY09 modified with these guys and if so, how do u find them and have you had any problems so far?
2. Will just a tbe and tune give me that amount of power gains, or will I also need to get a fuel pump?
3. I was quoted $2250 for the exhaust and $1995 for the tune...is this a good price? It seems you can get a tbe, tune and fuel pump for alot less in the eastern states!!
4. I know things tend to be more expensive here but can you recommend any other places?

I also contacted Race Torque Engineering and they quoted me pretty much the same price..except they use ECUTEK which I heard is very restrictive in a sense that if you use a bad batch of fuel for example, the ECU will automatically revert back to backup mode and you would have to go back and get the ECU tuned again!!!

This brings me to my last question..is it better to go for an open source tune?

Thanks heaps
Scott

They are good but use ECUTEK aswell. Thats why its so exxy. I dont believe the revert to stock tune or whatever though.

Most go for a Verso tune by All Star Garage in wangara. $990 for full dyno tune. I have it and love it. The savings can be spend on mods.

Verso = Open Source Tune

Allstar Garage = Verso

Call Sean at Allstar Garage and save yourself some cash plus you wont have your ecu locked by using Ecutek.

I have had a TBE and ECUtek retune done on my 08 from Race Torque, Couldnt be happier with it.

ECUtek was the only tuning option available for 08 when i tuned mine so it was an easy option. $2K tune and about $1200 for my TBE which is a Turbo XS from Sydney.

I have the dyno pic posted up here if you want to have alook

Thanks for the reply guys.

Apart from being "locked in", wat is the difference between Verso and ECUTEK? Why is ECUTEK so much more expensive? Is it bcoz its a better/safer tune?? Or does it produce more power??

I dont want my engine to blow or anything so if ECUTEK is safer, I dont mind paying the extra $$$$ - as long as its better for my car.

Dougiefresh - tats a good price on ur tbe - how much did it cost u to get it installed by race torque?? Also, wat paint did u use to colour the chrome parts on ur car? It looks so much nicer now with the tail lights and chrome painted black

Did you change ur fuel pump as well??

Lastly, how many kms did ur car have on the clock when u started modifying?

Thanks again

No and no. The high price is associated with high license fees.
I believe that most on here will recommend a Verso tune.

I think it was 1 hour of labour to have the exhaust installed if i remember so about $70?? No i havent had to change my fuel pump either. I had my exhaust and retune done at my first service - 10,000kms
Had the chrome stripe painted at a spray shop with the same paint as the car.

the only difference with the ecutek is I think you get a limited warranty via MRT via MMS/Racetorque if you do the TBE and ECUtek together.
Whereas Verso or any open source tune any warranty would be up to the individual worshop.

I am not 100% on the details but if you are concerned ask MMS about it. The warranty covers the things that are lost in your subaru warranty I believe. Like I said ask
