Default ECU modifications to change the way it learns

Had my wrx looked at as it was idling a little rough, rpms were around 600-650.

The service centre advised they contacted Subaru and received instructions/codes to enter to alter the way the ecu is learning to correct my issue.

They advised that they have had several other cars with the same issue and this process takes them around 40 minutes to carry out.

Has anyone heard of this ??

The car seems a little sluggish after the work.

Is this being done as part of a warranty or are you having to fork out hard - earned cash ?

If you are handing over your hard earned dosh i would consider going for a full verso retune.

I always heard if you disconnected the battery, the ecu relearns the way you drive it, so if you disconnect, pump brake pedal a few times, then reconnect and go and flog the shit out of it, will learn your driving style.

As for it idling rough, could it be cold start settings?

you need to disconnect for 10-15mins although dont do this if you have a brant keypad or you'll be up shit creek without a tow truck or master pin.

If you can specify what year, model etc you have others might be able to provide further details or attempted solutions.

This works for old GC8's... GDA onwards requires proper ecu work.

The vehicle is a 2006 MY07. The actions mentioned before were carried out under warranty.

The original issue was that the car idles smoothly and then goes rough for a second and then smooths out again. Today the car was idling rough and the rpm was low at idle.

Further: On the weekend, the car began to shudder for around 20 minutes. It seemed to start around the 60km mark and then went away and would be felt again at the 100-110km mark. After 20 minutes of driving it ran fine.

The shudder I would say felt like the wheels had gone out of balance.

It hasn't repeated this since.

Have the ECU calibration ID renewed if required.

Speaking to the master tech will be your best bet.

I have basically the age car as yourself, and i notice every now and again while stationary the car will idle rough for a second and then correct itself, thought it was pretty normal.

As for the shudder i kind of get the same thing. Occasionaly when on the freeway i will get a vibration through the steering wheel. Tends to be on the same stretch of road when i leave work and car is not at full operating temperature but will only last for maybe a minute or so. Always thought it was the road surface.

With the shudder try pulling on the hand brake just a little bit (not enough to lock the wheels), and see if the shudder gets worse, it can be over adjusted hand brake shoes
