Is there any difference between GC8 WRX version 5 or 6 JDM heads compared to the Aust Spec heads.

as in the ports themselves or what they contain? they should pretty much be identical AFAIK

An RA would, but the Aussie V5/6 were detuned jap STi's afaik.

I think they are same same. You definately want the STi version over the garden variety wrx heads. Something to do with the shims and whther they are bucket over or bucket under. Always get them mixed up but one can handle more boost than the other. AFAIK the best heads for what you are doing you want JDM MY03 sti heads. Talk to dave up at race torque about what they put in nanoviches sti.

GC8 STI heads - Shim under buckets. handles more revs easily. They had a 8250rpm rev limit compared to 7200 or so for WRX.

I'm going to get Kelford cams, I've bought some JDM WRX heads, will need to source the shims etc to do it properly I suppose??

non-AVCS
standard valves
standard springs

02 STi:
bigger ports
shimless buckets
AVCS
sodium filled valves
stiffer springs

I thought avcs was an 03 thing.

So when someone says big port heads they're talking about the sti heads...
