Dropped off the heads (V5 STi) with Diamond today, I am tossing up if I should do some Kelford cams whilst the heads are off, was thinking these babies :-

http://www.camshaftshop.co.nz/index...._view.tpl.html

But looking at another $1k to $1.5K to fit on top of the purchase price, for I don't know how much gain, the engine builder (Michael South) reckons the standard Sti cams will be okay, decisions, decisions!!

cheers

If you're going to up the turbo size noticeaby down the line, then a cam upgrade would be worthwhile, but if you sticking to oem type turbo sizing and want response, not needed.

Good call, exactly what Michael said - Money might be better spent on a FMIC if the TMIC struggles.

cheers

Since when is okay good enough Gav? You need an engine sooo lumpy it makes a peripheral port rotary sound tame! When it's idling the exhust beat should rattle the windows of the car behind and dig a hole in the road.

JME has a good point, the full benefit of cams wont be had with a small snail, and yes, like he said, you will/may lose a little low down response and "drivability".
However, I was in the same boat 18months ago, and took the chance and put cosworth 272's in. My main thought was that $1000 in labour, head prep etc now is a lot better than $2500 later on to pull the engine out, take the heads off, machine, install cams, new gaskets etc...
I'm happy I took the risk. My car is far from "undrivable", and I've noticed little to no loss in response. And if in the future i decide to bolt a high mount TD06-20g on, the heads are good to go.

buy cams, send heads and cams to JHH engineering in QLD...

job done.

there is no one in W.A. with as much experience/development in porting Subaru heads as John Hill.

his prices seem better too.

Hypothetically what would John Hill charge to sort out a set of heads? Assuming I can organise freight obviously.

Heads need to be serviced as they were very dirty and lot's of gunk built up, this will hold things up for a few days, ahh the joys of building an engine begin

For info as above question, I bought these heads from Victoria and it cost $60.00 per head with Aust Post (reg and insured).....
