Default Lightened Flywheel

All,

I have searched and found a little info on aftermarket lightened flywheels, most people say not to go too light as it makes daily driving a hassle.

Can anyone recommend what is a good weight to go for that is a compromise between too light, but better than the standard sti 6 speed flywheel.

cheers

I went with a 4.5kg one Gavin. No real difference from stock as far as driveability, certainly revs quicker, needs just a little more throttle off the line when driving sedately to not stall it. Just do it

I put a 4.3kg in and loved it. I've since gone up to a 5.3kg and found it's alot easier to "catch" when its about to stall. The extra Kg makes it much easier to drive I reckon.

I've still got the 4.3kg one for a 5 speed here if anyone wants it.

I love my Fidanza 4.5kg..

Light flywheels are great, although the super light ones can be a bit noisy.

Basically, they don't allow the gears to load up like the stock flywheel on deceleration, and you get a rumbling or grinding noise, which is gear chatter.

Is the gear chatter an issue wear wise??? Thinking of going to a light one whenever I eventually have to do the clutch but increased gearbox wear would be a good thing to avoid surely!!!

i lost somewhere in the region of 10kg going from the luberty dualmass flywheel to the ORC twin, huge difference in the way the car revs and seeing as you have an Autistic, get steve to spend 5 minutes on the idle control and you will love it too.

If you go super light alloy flywheel and you do alot of track work it is very easy to warp the flywheel (from heat) and then it feels like you have a worn clutch even though the clutch is fine.
Just a tip if you are thinking of circuit work.
A light steel cromolly flywheel is prob the best for longevity.
