...or more correctly drive belts? Coz they don't drive fans anymore do they?
Anyways, while replacing my radiator on the weekend, noticed the belts starting to crack so told the missus to grab a pair of new ones at Bunbury Subaru in her travels. Got home tonite, she showed 'em to me & said they cost $136!!! ![]() They gotta be kidding don't they? Or am I just behind the times? Can ya get these non-genuine, if so where & how much?

Yes, you should be able to get them from repco, super cheap, coventries, oxford spares etc. i think that they are 5pk875 for alternator/ps and 4pk495 for a/c comp but check the numbers that are on your old belts. They should be about $25 each max i think.

Im not entirely sure about the non genuine belts. Looking at used timing belts yesterday, you can clearly see the difference between the two. The genuine ones seemed to wear better. Might have just been the half a dozen or so belts i saw though.
I guess if the other belts are cheap enough, you have the luxury of being able to replace them more often without too much hassle! |

Timing belts, yes, I would probably go genuine, but drive belts, any make will be good enough. We fit Dayco at work all the time with no problems....

Thanx for the info doods
![]() Took 'em back to Bunbury Subi this morning... got refunded no probs, the guys that work there are pretty top blokes. Went straight over the road to Repco, paid $47 for the Dayco ones, they look & feel just as good as the genuine ones.

Talk about drama!!!
Went to fit the belts, released the tensioner on the alt side, dropped pulley down, slipped belt off, no issues. Then came the A/C belt. Started to release the tensioner & the takeup threaded end broke in two!!! Eventually removed the whole tensioner assembly and then I saw it... it's left hand thread!?!?! Now, there's absolutely no rhyme or reason for this tensioner to be LH thread; I always thought that was reserved for special situations where RH thread dynamics are unsuited to the task. But this is just a tensioner! and the thread sleeve is made of ready-to-break plastic!? Be careful here ppls... I'm sure several of you have changed or will change your drive belts at some time. A phone call to Subaru soon got another $40 ![]() ![]()
