What exactly are the problem with the 2 pot brakes?

The swept area is actually larger than the old 4 pot setup on the GD's. The engineers have designed a braking system that is more than suitable for what a WRX is going to be used for. Tracking it? Buy some track brakes... Or an STi...

You will also see that the A-line automatic STi in Japan comes with 2 pots too. More than adequate for street cars.

^^just about to say that.

They are still a very good braking system for road. I think they have more clamping force that the 4 pots but just not the fade resistance of them. They are bigger so more clamp area is better than more pots on small disks.

I managed to smoke the brakes in my wife’s MY09 WRX when we were testing it against the Mk VI VW Golf GTi for a CarAdvice.com.au review.. it could have been to do with the fact that the brake pads had never had a good work out previously, but either way, they still worked just fine after we let the pads cool off. This was with multiple back to back runs up and down the Whiteman Park super stage

They are definitely perfect for their intended purpose, and as previously mentioned, the swept area is larger anyway.. so I'm sure a set of good pads and lines would make them even better for owners who want to dabble in a bit of weekend motorsport.

What pads would you suggest? I've found on the cruises that "fade" becomes one of my main issues when pushed.

Can't see the Brembo setup coming for a while yet.

That was a pretty good review, Thanks Joe.

I did like your remark (in the comments section) that the WRX had 'reliable' quality in that it would last a long time.

I thought the 'quality' of my MY98 was horrible when I first got it, because it looked pretty poor in comparison to, for example, the Mazdas of the same era.

However, it has weathered well after nearly 13 years despite not being garaged and not being particularly well looked after past it's first 3 years.

I had wondered whether the same applied to the latest model
