Default MY99 Classic or MY02 Bugeye

Hey guys

At first I had my heart set on a Classic.. but seeing the Bugeye are coming down to similar price has got me thinking.

If both cars were same price, km's, what are the pro's and con's of each?

I never liked the look of the Bugeye's but for some reason after seeing a few up close they are growing on me. Guess they seem to be finished a bit better, yet I always wanted a nice Classic.

Is it a simple car of one being more lighter, raw, vs heavier, refined? I have only had a short test drive of each.

Classic for me (obviously). Lighter, prefer the look 100%, always a huge range of upgrade bits on PWRX and elsewhere. MY99/00 model for preference.

Safety wise I'd go for the bugeye, but then if I wanted safety I'd be driving a volvo with 27 airbags and the speed limited to 60 km/h ;-) I've never driven anything but the GC8 and as the back gets older (along with the rest of me) I'd probably appreciate the extra comfort.

Buy the car which is in the best condition for the price you can afford, regardless of model. Favour an excellent condition GC8 over an average condition bugeye. Make sure you drive / have a poke around both properly before buying.

no point in getting a bug eye unless it is a STI, the wrx is like buying the 08 wrx, its just slower then the rest. 03 is ok and the 99/00 is a great car to, but as always its down to personal choice

Go the classic if you want a better drivers car (im talking stock vs stock)

If I had my choice again and the $$$ I'd go import/find me a gc8 STI and make myself giggle like a school girl

go with whatever you like best. i never really liked the bugs but i bought a bug over a classic going on the "value for money" theory. luckily for me, i love my bug!

02 wrx is the same as the rest prior to the EJ25

it's the 01 wrx that was slower than the rest because of it's gearing

yep, for your $$ spent you get more.....
...weight.
And that's about it.

All other aspects are personal preference. ie interior finish, exterior styling, ride comfort etc.
Plus, all these things can be changed for minimal cost.

My vote goes to the 99.

I fly the 99 flag out of personal preference. So that would be my pick. Also depending on how much cash you throw at either, you can pretty much change everything except the basic shape.
