hmm Benny u should be able to get a block from the U.S not too pricey but are rare to buy these days.. i rekon if ur going to stroke a 2ltr the bores will be getting on the thin side and u should CD it at the very least..
You have a pm..

If things go my way i wont be touching another 207 2.0l block for long time i hope.

how many kms are you looking at tho?

Have you guys factored in on-going rebuild costs for the cosworth motors? Correct me if Im wrong but dont they need to be stripped etc about every 20,000kms?

maybe if you're running 500hp

Hey guys,

Quick question,

With the 2 cosworth EJ20 2.2 kits, is the $3k difference worth it for the kit with the billet crank or should i just get the cosworth forged crank $3k cheaper??

trainwrex 22-09-2010 07:11 PM

billet crank has better oiling journals over the standard crank is also much stronger. They are also x-rayed so there are no fatigue points...

So yes worth it, but depends on how much your going to stress the engine and what power levels ur putting out..

Billet is definately worth it if you're going to spin the engine pretty hard...forged is poo :)

Why would you consider a cosworth motor if you wern't chasing some decent power?

You can get a reliable 400-450hp from a 207 with minimal internal mods.

Tbh, I dont know of many cosworth built cars that are lower hp dailys...I only know of Jarrads (I think? the hippocreek one) old car and Seans...Both are over 500hp and deffo not dailys.

benny's car has been through 3 207's now...quinners is a street car, mine will still be streetable but i dont think ill drive it too much.

how long is a 207 going to last at 450 hp? if you drive it hard that is. Mine lasted about 80k at 300 hp atw, considering i already had a block stroker was a logical option, i went with a HKS kit. Torque and the ability to spool a much larger turbo before 5500 rpm like my old setup were the advantages i saw.

if you're just going to throw a 2.2 stroker kit in, good bearings etc its still not going to be bullet proof. Look at tinos motor, thats finally in a reliable form and making 530 whp on pump fuel and after riding in it a few times i can confirm this is PLENTY  . But thats a very expensive motor.

Seans car would be rebuilt very frequently id imagine, but that doesnt matter as he can do all the work himself, has all the facilities and tunes himself so its going to cost him sweet f all. I know stace has made some big power on a stock bottom end, but his wagon has a jun 2.2 in it.

Why would cosworth offer that standard 2.2 kit with the forged crank and a 'race' kit with the billet crank? not everyone is chasing 500 hp. From all accounts the torque of the 2.5's is excellent fun to drive, im sure the appeal of the torque of a 2.2 + twin scroll (or similar) without the fear of the blowing up like the 257's of fail is quite hight to some people.

I guess there are many aspects to look at. :)

fyi, seans car is still a stock 207 and has been for a few years...
