Default 17" GC8 Tyre sizes

Ok guys my tyres need replacing i currently have 225/45/17 Yokohama C.Drives on 02 STi wheels and they don't rub on my struts at all thank god, however the issue i had a few months back is that i bought Toyo R888's and they were the exact same size as the Yokohama's (225/45/17) and they rubbed on my struts(Suspension) really bad i had to take them off and put the Yokohama's back on immediately. I was thinking of getting 215/45/17 RE070 tyres as i have found a very good deal on them but i don't want issues with rubbing.

Now what are my options in making dead sure it does not rub. Any suggestions much appreciated?

I am currently running 215/45R17 Yoko A drives on my wagon. Lower on king lows and never had a scrape. Rear guards are rolled but doubt they need it.

I believe the correct rolling diameter to match up to stock wheels for a GC8 is actually 215/40R17.

I assume you have coilovers? Though tyres state the same size, in reality their actual contact width will vary quite a lot....firstly most R Spec tyres will actually have a wider tread width than a road tyre of the same size...thus the rubbing with R888's. Other examples - the tread width on a Yoko A050 235/45/17 is 237mm and the same size Bridgestone RE55 is 241mm. I suggest you talk to someone like Wheels World who will be able to sort you out.

Thanks mate much appreciated on the info. I don't have coilovers i just have whiteline super-low springs.

i just got some 215/45/r17 pirelli p7000 on 05 wrx rims. with superlow kings and no guard rolling. no scrubbing at all.

also west state tyres in bentley did a great price on them so give them a call if you need some fresh rubber.

Is it really worth going for the 7.5 over the 7.0 and have the rubbing issues? Deciding between wheels mentioned, 02 sti rims and peanut era wrx 17's. sorry to reboot old thread.

Got 7.5" with 215 and no rubbing at all and soon to be going 8" with 235.

Though my car is not slammed.

Ride height plays a key issue along with offset.

I went with the 215/45/17 and it clears very well with no scrubbing on the struts and along with that my car is pretty low.

I have my STi wheels and tyres for sale, In gloss black. Just saying.
