Default Why we pay more for imported cars-

a frustrating read.

it would be nice to have a deregulated car market.

Most other things don't have legislation stopping an individual purchasing whereever they choose.

The part that annoys me the most is when the industry we are protecting here, sells the same product in another country far, far cheaper than they sell it here. If they can sell it for that over there, sell it here for that price or cheaper.

I'm with Kato.

If we got cheap local cars, different story. But, we don't.

The problem is, everyone is conditioned to pay way too much for cars, and I can't see any of the brands dropping their prices if they're still selling cars at the high prices.. Therefore, we're stuck with it.

They would sell more if they lowered the prices.

Simple economics, its more advantageous to sell less product at an increased price then more for a reduced price.

Less overhead more profit.

What economics did you fail?

Its about achieving the right sales volume, market exclusivity and profit margin.

If you sell 1 unit at $500 profit, it's a lot better to sell 10 units at $100 profit. Esp given you have invested in the tooling to manufacture the 1 item. The big question is if you lower the price can you keep selling or will you saturate the market?

Regardless, they are still making profit on the cars they sell overseas, so what they do here is just take the piss.
