Default Speed Camera Revenue

Interesting article about the govt sending all speed camera revenue to road safety programs by 2012.

20 bucks says this slush fund will be used for new roads and improving old ones, with the excuse that this will create safer roads.

Or making the old roads wider with less corners and more trees to hide more rear facing speed cameras to catch more people speeding.. and so the cycle continues.

100% of revenue towards road safety? I'll believe it when I see it. Not a minute before.....

^ yep.

Either way it's still like collecting taxes from smoking and poker machines. It's shady business/snake oil and our elected representatives shouldn't be involved in it...

Just imagine if they put that same sort of money toward driver training.

If our license registration fees goes towards the maintenance of roads like they do in the UK then will this injection of funds mean lower fees for us - I doubt it.
If currently only one third of the revenue raised from speeding fines goes towards road maintenance where is the other two thirds going? How is that being accounted for year after year?
