The fourth generation 2012 Subaru Impreza has arrived, and to paraphrase Huey Lewis, the first thing you might notice is that it's hip to be square... er. Underneath its skin, the new Impreza says a few things that Americans aren't so used to - nor so fond of - hearing, like the fact that it has a smaller-displacement engine with less horsepower.

If that's the step backward, though, there are more than two steps forward: It's lighter, faster, more frugal, stiffer, nicer inside, has a better suspension and more interior room, all the while being the same size as the previous generation. Said Subaru Production Line Manager James Todd, "it's all upside."

We'll let you decide that. But in the meantime...

I dont like it.
Subaru lost there edge when they introduced the 2008 impreza. they brought it back slightly with the more beefy 2011 wrx and sti models. this is like the new liberty. they are aiming for a more high class look which i dont like :\
RIP impreza.

Have to agree with Rex here.. Subaru definitely lost their appeal after the introduction of the 08 Impreza's. They appear to be aiming for the low demographic and their reflected trend in Sales figures over the years of change from 2005-2010 speak loudly. R&D + Engineering need to go back to drawing board and work their shit out imho.

at least everything is going back to 2litre.

I think some people might be happy if Subaru still made GC8's!
No pics of any turbo models yet. I think its an improvement on the out-going model. Will be interesting to see how the FB20 goes.

I like it. Definitely a step in the right direction. Good to see it getting lighter and handle better. Looks like a decent package for a base model.

But I don't like how they state that they are 'getting away from the offroad look' That said, I am interested to see the 2012 WRX & STi concepts

I like Liberty/Legacy's so the new design doesn't bother me, they even use the dash from the current liberty in it but as Subaru says this new direction is to separate it from the WRX/STi Impreza's so will be really interesting to see what they'll actually do to make them completely different.

looks like a cross between a toyota corolla front, with a proton rear end....it does not flow to me....I dont like it now....but like all rex's they grow on u ^^;

But it looks planted. So its an ifffff for me.
