+2 my V1 picks them up from hundreds of metres away.

Jezza: Is it worth vertical mounting the V1 yet?

Not for the Poliscans mate. No difference.
Unfortunately (in my experience) rear Poliscan setups have the V1 go off just before the camera. I haven't had it reflect of cars in front and give advanced warning like Andrew & Boris have.

Food for thought:

All these new speed and red light cameras were rolled out mid last year. So the WA public has had almost 12 months exposure to them so far.

Number of fatalities on WA roads to date, as of the 25th of May 2011: 69

Number of fatalities on WA roads to date this time last year (May 2010): 64

In other words since the roll out of these additional cameras, the death toll on West Australian roads has increased by 7.8% despite revenue increasing by tens of thousands of dollars.

Aren't these things supposed to decrease the deaths on our roads?

Speed camera program.....fail much?

Any privately owned company that did not deliver on it's intended/stated outcome would be sued.

There was talk a while back about radar detectors in WA being made illegal, is this still the case?

Also jezza what reasonably priced detector do you recommend at the moment?

Whilst I am getting some "long" distance alerts the line of sight is paramount to the alert distance. Selby street being reasonably flat provides a decent long distance alert. Sites such as the one after Wellington Street on Stirling Highway is much shorter. I have also found that they are setting the camera much closer to Wellington St to lower the distance from the crest making the alert distance much lower.

I've also found that night time alerts are much better than day time alert distances. A higher mounting position with a slight downward angle helps as well.

I've spent hours analyzing alert distances in real life situations (not as much as the specialists though). In the end though just drive the speed limit as the reverse setup will in almost all situations give you no warning at all.

At what angle are these set to the road, the roo bar on my offroad WRX is quite deep on the sides and if I was to move the plate over a couple of inches I'm pretty sure it would hide the last couple of numbers. My rear plate is also recessed in a JDM bumper about 5" & may help from rear facing cameras getting me.......been 6yrs but more through luck & diligence than anything else.
