Liberty / Forester / Outback for parents
Thought I'd tap the collective wisdom of p'wrxers who've become parents and moved on to another subie besides the wrx...
We'll be looking at libertys / foresters / outbacks this Wednesday night and was wondering what people have found work well with transporting little ones around and all the associated gear that goes with that. #1 priority is safety, though (as a starting point) all are 5-star rated as far as I know. After safety the other important criteria would be things like space and reliability and running costs. FYI don't expect to be towing, and don't expect to be doing any (serious) offroading. If you want to share your full-blown comparison here please feel free to, but just looking at hearing what's worked well (or not) for the mum's and dad's out there. Thanks for the help Nik P.S. I've heard about the Forester's crap auto tranny but will just have to see what that's like when test driving... P.P.S. If anyone can suggest someone helpful at Wangara Subaru that'd be good to know too |

we have an 05 Foz and 08 Accord and the Mrs prefers the Foz simply for it's higher ride height which is easier on her back for loading baby in/out of the car.
Boxer rumble also luls baby off to sleep much better

Best bet is to come in to Suby Wang and take them all for a drive. New Forester (2011) has an all new FB25 engine which is more economical.
You can even take them home overnight to test with some conditions. Ask for John in service and I'll see what I can do.

Has a '95 Liberty sedan for years when the kids were young and it was nothing but a brilliant car.

Liberty wagon or sedan?
we have both an '06 Forester and an '03 Gen4 Lib sedan, Forester is better for putting stuff in the back of course due to size but the boot of the Lib's are quite large too and can hold a fair bit ( i was suprised how big it was ). two very different cars to drive too, Lib feels a lot more comfortable, especially on longer drives ( seats are better than the Foz ) and the Foresters suspension is softer so you have more body roll etc. both are big enough for two baby seats along the back seat but they won't fit three, not quite wide enough. |

We have a 05 Liberty Wagon. It is perfect for family life.
Easy to load prams, shopping kids in and out of. So easy to drive. Has a bigger boot space than the Foz. As ours is the premium edition it has leather too, which is much easier to clean
