I got my drivers licence in 1997 and have always had a soft spot for the late 90's weapons.
Went through a few as my weekend warriors, supercharged 96 XR8, 400atwhp 98 Senator 355ci, 1991 GT4 celica.
Even with a shiny new XR6 turbo the senator was my weapon of choice.

Well, about 2 years ago my last V8 project, a 97 VS acclaim with an ex-pursuit 5 litre, started leaking oil from every orifice and it was time for another turbo.

Looked at some betties and bug STI's.
Shopping ended when I completely by chance spotted a 1998 WRX in a yard around the corner from me. SOLD.

This has to be the least modified car I have owned in ages and is one of most enjoyable to drive...

I mucked around with mazda rotaries for years & found myself crewing for a certain red RX-3 in Perths classic rally in 94. I was driving a black Series 1 RX-7 with a self ported & built bridge ported 13b, I loved it's 300hp, bad attitude, flame throwing bad manners & lumpiness, Anywhoo.... One stage was Rebold hill in floreat...There was an Rs Lib that was trumping a lot of cars on that hill.......All I can recall now is the sound of it's boxer beat & Anti-lag....Talk about attitude!...PORN!

A Year or two later (95' I think) buddy of mine (Julian) bought a White GC & has MMS do some mods (boost, venturi dump etc), many nights spent out in that car! He used to belt the ears off that thing and it kept asking for more. He got me interested in Rally Aus & the Forest rally. Both of us taking our street cars out on the gravel to follow the stages. after watching & listening various Rs's & Wrx's on the gravel.....I had to get one!

17 years, a few other notable cars, Three Rs Lib's & one clean stock my99 Wrx later, I now have my favorite of all the 'classic' WRX's - a version 6 STI. I'm partially through building it to be how I want it, Engine built & much more to come over the next year or so, Dccd box, Turbo, injectors, Panel & paint.

/CSB!

Never started off as someone who liked Subaru's, or knew much about them.

For my first car, I bought a 2000 Lancer GLI, stock 1.8ltr 4 cylinder, reliable, fuel efficient, good first car.

Had some "mods" exhaust, put a pod filter on, lowered with some Rodney Jane spec rimzz, (not wanting to spend 1/4 car on rims), fooly sikk body kit/spoiler.

Served me well that car, went like new even with 198,xxx on the clock. Installed a massive stereo in the car and had it for a year or so.

Km's were getting high, wanted something different, looking at VZ SV6's in the 6 speed manual, and unfortunately not many manuals/too much $$.

A Few weeks after searching, and selling my car, seen an ad on carsales for a white Bug WRX, looked clean, barely any mods, decent price and owner moving overseas. Never considered having a WRX, but upon viewing the car, I fell in love.

Dad took it for a drive and was sold, as was I!

end CSB :P

I was probably 9 or 10ish when i first had my crush on subarus.
Was at the car show out at burswood with dad, and got to sit in this funky yellow car with a massive spoiler and though it was the coolest thing ever

The old man loved his subaru's but had never owned a turbo. Just bottom of the range libertys and what not. He used to go on about how awesome they were in the WRC and how much safer they are than any other car due to the AWD.

I always picked a WRX in any racing game that had them. If they didn't have a wrx I didn't oplay the game.

By the time I was 16 I discovered the rumble and used to brag how I could tell it was a wrx driving past just by the sound. I movbed over here to Perth at 20 with my first decent job. Saved my first two paychecks and bought dad's liberty off him. Had a cousin drive it here from Northern NSW the long way via Darwin.

By the time I got it, it had an inch thick of red dust over everything and 250k kms on the clock. Got back from a 4 week stint at work and the battery had died so I got a new one, washed the car and traded it in for my first wrx.

I still remember that feeling I got when I first drove it. I finally felt like I was no longer a teenager scumming off my parents. Felt like a free man with the world at my feet.

A week later someone asked me why I didn't get the STi. I didn't have an answer so a month later I traded it in for an STi. That was my first lesson in wasting money. The first one I had bought as an ex demo at close to full new price and got bugger all trade in for it. By the time I paid for the STi I had lost all my original deposit.

Still got it now but debating on selling it. Everytime I drive it my heart says no. But if I'm not in the car my heart longs for something new.

In love with this so much more after 2night...- Racing a S2000 in the rain.. (and winning)- he span-out when he shifting gears, his back end just lost traction, unfortunately clipped my rear but it did not effect my driving what so ever, he then span 4 times in the middle of the road & ended up smashing over a island right next to a traffic light.

ALSO:
4 Doors
4 Cylinder
5 Seats
Turbo
Nice Size - Unlike a Holden/Ford etc
Nice Sound
Nice Bucket Seats
Nice Interior/Exterior
Big Boot
Very quick
Decent price..Thats about it..

I hope this racing was in a legal, controlled environment. Like Gosnells.

Why i got a subaru? It was 1998 and my brothers friends sister who was a cop at the time bought a new v5 STI. Brothers friend took us for a drive in it and being so young at the time i got that feeling you get when you take off on a plane or go on one of those high velocity g-force show-rides at dreamworld or the royal show... I don't get that anymore, even on flights but having a turbo car is the closest thing to it. The car looked sick and sounded amazing. Had a crush ever since, so i made sure i got myself one.

Posting this is just going to get you flamed.

Namely because it is a stupid thing to do in the first place...
