Finished spraying rear skirt details in RX silver, these were MUCH harder to remove & put back on then I expected- I think Subaru went into overkill with their fastening system...I substitued both inner-most clips(either side) for cable ties, because if I ever need to take it off again, cutting cable ties will save me alot of time.
Also attached silver side skirts, all that is left now before I save $$ for a respray, is to buy Corrie's front lip, TeeJay's fog-light covers, an STi spoiler and the i'll have the shape im after

Gave it a wash and polish and it came up alright for the GC8 gathering today, which was my first pdiddy cruise and alot of fun!

Looking like this at the moment:

(thanks to kym for the pic)

Too right on that, easiest way to get them off is to take the entire rear bumper off... spent a good 2 hours screwing about with mine trying to get them on while flexing the bumper out and dropping the bolts everywhere. Not fun!

Sure was worth the effort though, looks very tidy indeed with the silver skirts!

I did exactly the same thing mate, ended up snapping a few plastic fasteners(on the bumper) in the process...
Also swapped out for cable ties.
IMO cable ties hold it in place better anyway.

Picked up an Ultrex MY98 Lip from Corrie(cheers mate)

(image from the Ultrex website)
I will be prepping & painting, hopefully fitting over this weekend.

Chatting to Corrie about fitting a GDB steering wheel when I was picking up the lip, we noticed a difference between our '97 STi gauge clusters. My dash has an airbag light, his didn't, and I'm pretty sure I have an airbag computer laying around somewhere that was out of the STi half-cut.
So in theory I may be able to run the GDB steering wheel, wire in the computer and have a functioning airbag?
Has anyone had experience with this conversion before?

Not fully aware of how the system works, but I thought you needed a lot of sensors to determine an impact and if the airbag goes off - not just the computer.

Best bet would be to talk to the guys at S-Technic and find out what has been put back in. Usually there are 2 or more sensors mounted in or behind the front bumper. Usually the wiring is in yellow conduit but as I have never seen an airbag in a 97 it may be different.
Also, you will need to find out how your system works. I believe some systems use the g sensor, seat belt pre-tensioners or both combined with the impact sensors. Would be kinda cool and unique to do though...

Yeah, since I'm pretty sure the standard RX had no airbags, I would have to install front & rear bumper impact sensors, g sensor and seat belt tensioner sensors. Along with the appropriate wiring.
Next time I'm in STechnic I will ask the guys If it isn't too much of a headache, I reckon it's definitely worth doing.

I initially thought that, but if you have all the sensors & airbag computer, wouldn't the computer deal with all the info coming in from the sensors, and just send voltage up to the steering wheel to deploy the airbag if needed?(I doubt the GDB wheel will contain any computers for airbag deployment, but correct me if I'm wrong).
Will be interesting to find out.

The problem (imho) will be due to generation change, the voltages etc put out by the GC stuff wont gel with the GD wheel.

I could be 100% wrong.
