Theres a bit about electric turbo's on the net. Using an exhaust gas driven generator, to charge a battery pack to power the brushless motor driven compressor.
THe actual concept is real and plausible, as for it being on a Subaru... who knows?

Wonder if there would be an automatic changeover to the alternator/battery in case the generator fails.
Otherwise it might be a slow and painful drive back to the dealer to get it fixed up

The battery for the compressor is a seperate one from the normal car battery.
No doubt a NiMH or Lithium-ion or whatever the latest battery tech is.
THe system I've seen actually charges the battery continuously, even when the compressor is not in use, eg, when cruising. and the battery can be used to run accessories, stezza, blower motor.
Which means less load on the engine as the alternator isn't working as hard.
It then switches all accesories back to normal battery power when the compressor is in use.

So you may have a warning light on and still have a few minutes boost up your sleeve.

The technology is real though, check it:

I'd have a Exhaust turbo or supercharger preferably.

This concept has KERS type system written all over it.

Just too playstation for me. Why reinvent a perfectly working wheel.

Because it's not perfect.
We all spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to eliminate and mitigate the negatives of turbo chargers. Lag, heat etc.
