I have an 86 on order, hopefully arriving mid Dec. It will be our 2nd car, as we are keeping the WRX, so we get the best of both worlds. I plan to do track days & sprints in the 86. While I'm not going to win much, I'm just after a fun car which I can improve my track driving in. Rear wheel drive, 2 door, fairly light for reasonable $$ - I think it will be good. If not then the 86 becomes the daily and we mod the WRX :-)

btw - no facory aero kit here - not a fan of that wing :-)

Serious. You said they designed it with mods in view. I just cant see that.

Re read what you wrote. It has alot of potential for mods. Not designed for it. Sorry.

Im sure i read somewhere that some tuning houses had access to the car prior to release, so that they could start developing goodies straight away for them.

I can have just as much fun in my 110 hp GTi than I can in my 250 hp WRX.

I did enjoy the test drive I had in a GT 86 but am gonna wait for the convertible to come out and buy it for the wife to replace the MR-S.

It is better if she owns it because if I do it will turn into another money pit . . .

Catalogues of parts were available before the cars were in the hands on consumers (here).
Good to see that a lot of manufacturers were able to get onto the bandwagon quite quickly.

Having a blast reading through some of the builds of tuning companies and parts companies on the ft86 forums

Picked up my brz a few days ago - and I love it! Obviously doesn't have the same kick in the pants as the WRX but it is certainly very fun to drive. I'll have to reserve my opinion until I've driven it a little more (and driven it a little harder) but so far I'm stoked. I'm not surprised at all by the praise this car is getting from auto journos around the world either (And the criticism too). Its a really fun car to drive but could use a little extra power to pull itself out of the corners.

There is already a very strong aftermarket supply for these cars too, all the typical bits and then some. I guess it helps when half the car is recycled from subaru/toyota/lexus parts. Current cheapest bolt-on turbo kit is about 4kAUD delivered (5psi, ~180kw / 300 Nm).
