Can't be that bad, surely can be repaired?

Maybe, it has taken some chunks out of the lip though so I'm not sure how.

I was just talking to Kat tonight about how I've never hit a curb and got gutter rash and then this happens haha.

I've heard good things about alliance rim repair. I'd suss out the repair before chasing a whole new wheel

Thanks Jezza, I'll be sure to follow up my options.

$250 will be the cost of a new wheel if I need to go that route, and that will be assuming Rota split from their usual sell in pairs policy and sell me just the one. Hopefully a repair can be done cheaper.

Here's the carnage

Give the rim repair place a go, Munya had similar happen to him and gutter rashed his Oz rims a few years back and the rim repair place fixed both which was great because those particular rims were no longer being sold so he would have had to buy a whole new set!

Owen at Melthams will fix it in Bayswayer. Done mine a few times now.
You really need a wider tyre on that rim, you will forever be needing to avoid kurbs until you do as the lip is exposed.

That is an easy fix though, no new rim required.

I have 225's on my 8.5" ROTA and they're fine. Having said that, John did tell me that Yokohamas seems to have a bit of extra meat on the sidewall as mine don't look as stretched as JRecardos. He'd have to be unlucky (or drive like a dick) to cop a canary though. It's usually when the rims hang outside the guards that grabs a cops attention.

JRecardo - if you can afford it, perhaps buy a new rim and once you have some spare cash, chuck a tyre on the damaged one and keep it as an emergency spare at home. I wish I did this after getting a tech screw in one of my tyres last week. Would have been much easier to get a ride home, grab and change a single wheel over instead of reverting all four corners back to stock.

The space saver becomes useless once you go aftermarket rims...

Yeah John was telling me that the tolerance for meat on the sidewalls between brands was within no strict region and some would be really meaty and others not so much. The Nexen 225s came back with a little more stretch than I expected but I don't think its going to be a big issue with anyone. Just a complete lack of protection when I do smack into curbs (which has never happened before last night).

Yeah Trolley, I will call Rota on Monday and see if they will let me buy a single rim. People who saw it in person today at hillaries said it was plenty repairable but it might pay to have a spare around anyway, especially since I don't have any stock wheels anymore.

i would stay away from Nexens. I had set on my sti and they were rubbish. No grip in the wet and nothing but understeer in the dry.
